Doxycycline for sinusitis

Any doctors about?

I have been prescribed doxycycline for sinusitis that I've had for over 4 weeks.

The course seems however very short - I've only been given 6 tablets to take over 5 days.

Is that a normal length of course for sinusitis? Just seems quite a short course (from previous experience albeit not with doxycycline) and the doctor I spoke to didn't fill me with a lot of confidence tbh (various things but for example didn't check allergies (I had to butt in to stop her before she ended the call to say I was allergic to certain antibiotics) or whether I could be pregnant before prescribing), so just wanted to check that it seems reasonable.

Yes: two 100 mg tablets on the first day then one a day for the next four days.

Yes that’s right, only thing that shifts mine. Sadly get it frequently.
Get well soon.

Think yourself lucky I had to take a 3 week course of doxycycline recently, it can make you feel a bit rough. Make sure you take it a while before bed as it can damage your throat if you lie down too soon afterwards, wear an SPF even if it's cloudy, I'd highly recommend lactulose and a probiotic as well.

Thanks everyone, that's reassuring.

I am now on day 4 and still have pain in my jaw/face with only one more tablet to go, should I contact the surgery again if I still have pain tomorrow or is this normal?

I would normally expect to continue with antibiotics for a few days at least after the symptoms have subsided....

Yes I don't feel very well, although I didn't before taking them tbh and I am also folate deficient and my ferritin's a bit low and my endo thinks my thyroid meds need adjusting so who knows what's causing what.

I haven't left the house for days but applied spf anyway today as I normally always put it on as part of skincare but I did forget the last two days as my memory is really really poor at the moment.

Gut wise I have been having diarrhoea for 6-8 weeks ish on and off, but that seems a bit better now, but not constipated so don't need lactulose. I always drink kefir but have got some extra probiotics in because I am having antibiotics.
