Symptoms:

  • severe sore throat leading to difficulty breathing
  • hoarse voice
  • dehydrated
  • diarrhoea
  • vomiting
  • need to clear my throat often, there’s yellow/brown mucus that occasionally includes a bit of fresh blood

GP said tonsillitis earlier this week (diagnosed over phone). I have been resting, drinking plenty of water and green tea, taking ibuprofen, cough syrup and cold/flu tablets. It has gotten worse since.

As the week has progressed, I cannot speak at all so I can’t call and ask for further help from the NHS. GP is only contactable via phoneBlush any advice on what I can do next to get better?

Difficulty breathing ?
Call 111 or if severe go to and e

KittenCatcher · 06/11/2021 14:26

You should seek urgent medical advice if you are having problems breathing and you dont want to develop sepsis. If you cannot even speak I would call an ambulance, you can tap out answers to their questions such as one tap for yes, two for no.

MMMarmite · 06/11/2021 14:27

If you can't phone for help, I would message a friend or family member and ask them to phone on your behalf.

ChickenFeed30 · 06/11/2021 14:32

Call 111 for an out of hours GP

Hotpinkangel19 · 06/11/2021 14:35

Have you taken a covid test? These were my symptoms

ToCutALongStoryShort · 06/11/2021 14:35

It all sounds worrying, please get checked over ASAP and don't be fobbed off.

Skyla2005 · 06/11/2021 15:13

If you are coughing up blood I would go to a and e urgently. Hope your ok

Silkieschickens · 06/11/2021 15:20

That's similar symptoms to what I had with covid as well. Do you have anyone with you that could call 111 for you for advice. I had to get my husband to phone as I felt so bad but they can get an appointment for you to be checked out or get antibiotics etc sent to chemist so should be able to help. Its worth getting an oximeter to measure your breathing, got mine from Amazon.

Eloise12 · 06/11/2021 17:40

OP I am sorry you are feeling so rotten. Could you try 111 online 111.nhs.uk/
I hope you feel better soon.

MercedesBenz · 06/11/2021 19:36

CambsAlways · 06/11/2021 22:54

Theunamedcat · 06/11/2021 23:04

Similar symptoms I had an ulcer on my tonsils and ended up on iv antibiotics

Tatapie · 06/11/2021 23:22

Goodness, get someone to call 111 and you need to see an out of hours doctor ASAP, I would have thought you need antibiotics immediately.

polkadotpjs · 07/11/2021 05:00

That sounds awful. I hope you got help ?

RachC2021 · 07/11/2021 09:29

Google Text Relay and set it up on your phone. You can use it for phone calls — an interpreter will speak what you type, so the other person doesn’t need the app. The service and app is free, but the phone call itself won’t be (but will be covered by your minutes if on a contract).

Etherealhedgehog · 07/11/2021 09:33

Don't understand why you're just on ibuprofen if GP suspects tonsillitis... I had it recurrently as a teenager and it was bacterial and required antibiotics every time. Did they mention coming in to get a swab/getting a prescription when you spoke to them first? It could be all sorts of things, including tonsillitis but if the latter it may well just keep getting worse until you get antibiotics - green tea isn't gonna touch that!

RedSnail · 07/11/2021 09:33

Use text relay to phone for medical help or get someone to call for you

pinkgin85 · 07/11/2021 09:35

You need antibiotics OP. Tonsillitis is horrible and mostly always requires antibiotics. Please get someone to ring the GP for you again

lljkk · 07/11/2021 09:40

How can a GP diagnose tonsillitis over the phone??

I dunno about the diarrhea but poinsy is a side effect of tonsillitis & fits OP's symptoms. I hope OP has been seen in person, now.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/11/2021 09:47

you need antibiotics surely?
do you have white tonsils?

They are doing a lot of diagnosis over the phone now something to do with a virus 🤔 (I'm joking 🙃)

It sucks that most doctors won't see people with symptoms close to covid incase it is but it sounds like it's got worse so she should be seen
