Coughing and headache

Hi there I know there are loads of bugs going round at the moment. I had that cold thing a few weeks ago but yesterday I had a terrible headache which I thought was my period as I tend to have headaches on them. Now I have a cough and sore throat but mucus is coming up so can't be Covid. Aches and pains everywhere. Anyone had this?

I tested positive for covid a week ago. My only symptoms were a very productive mucusy cough, a headache and a streaming nose. Mucus everywhere. I was surprised it was covid...but it was!

Seeline · 06/11/2021 13:08

Could definitely be covid. Cold like symptoms are quite common. Get a PCR test done.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 13:11

Oh ffs Smile. Thanks all. Will do a test

Not got streaming nose today but did have yesterday.

Oh and when I had the cold a few weeks ago I did do a pcr but was negative so I didn't have it then

Of course it could be covid! Glad you are getting a test. I have the same symptoms (cough and headache) so have been for my test this morning.

Seeline · 06/11/2021 13:16

@Myusernameisnotmyusernameno

Oh and when I had the cold a few weeks ago I did do a pcr but was negative so I didn't have it then
That's because there are a lot of cold and other viruses circulating at the moment. Doesn't mean this current infection is a cold. That's why we are meant to test each time we get a new cough, because there is no other way if telling if it is just a cold.
Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 13:30

@Seeline completely agree with you. Was just explaining.

Why did you think this cough couldn’t be COVID?

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 15:33

It's not constant or dry

OP posts:
DaxtheDestroyer · 06/11/2021 17:16

Are you vaccinated @Myusernameisnotmyusernameno?
The most common covid symptoms now are runny nose, headache, sore throat, sneezing and cough - that's according to the covid Zoe app. It's ridiculous the gov haven't updated the symptoms list yet.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 17:46

Thanks @DaxtheDestroyer yea they should update the symptoms. I am fully vaccinated. Just done pcr as my lft about 1 and a half hours ago was positive

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2021 17:49

The cough has never had to be “dry”. It has always just needed to be a new continuous cough.

Hopefully you’ll have a mild course of Covid.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 17:57

It's not continuous to be honest. It seems to be random. I felt more unwell with the cold.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2021 18:00

Continuous just means coughing a lot more than three times. If you’re bring up mucus, I’d be very surprised if that weren’t the case.

The public health messaging has been pretty crap., especially around the changing symptoms.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 18:04

That makes sense. Thank you. I feel very shocked I have it and hope the lft was wrong but you're right the whole thing needs updating. Gone back to work recently and certain people in the office feel the need to hug and kiss every time they see each other so probably caught it there. Not that I do that though Wink

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2021 18:08

I wouldn’t want to hug or kiss anyone I work with!

Seriously, hope it’s not too bad for you. I’m a week in and starting to feel better. It was like bad cold for me and dh. There’s a chatty thread running on the Covid board if you want some sympathy and solidarity. Flowers

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 18:43

Thank you. I know im not the first to have it so I'll be ok. Yes it does make me cringe when they do that at work and it's very unnecessary 😄

OP posts:
Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 18:43

And glad you're better nowSmile

OP posts:
Kezzie200 · 06/11/2021 19:40

Cross fingers for your pcr but it's looking like it will be positive. Hope you don't suffer too badly with it and have things to do to keep you busy for the isolation time.

Hotpinkangel19 · 06/11/2021 20:01

I was definitely coughing up mucus 3 weeks ago when I had it. Sorry op!

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 07/11/2021 13:44

Hi all. Pcr positive. Just wanted to say thanks for all your comments as I ended up doing the test and hopefully my DH and dd won't get it but I'm glad I found out now. Heading over to the Covid thread now for some support Smile

OP posts:
Seeline · 07/11/2021 16:52

Hope you don't feel too bad, and recover quickly.

DaxtheDestroyer · 07/11/2021 19:04

Hope you aren't too ill with it @Myusernameisnotmyusernameno. My PCR was negative but still feeling crappy.

QueenofLouisiana · 07/11/2021 19:09

@Myusernameisnotmyusernameno really glad you got tested, you’re right that they need to update the general understanding of symptoms. I coughed about 10 times while I had Covid, DH is still coughing 6 weeks later. Sad
