Chest Infection

Just looking for a little reassurance to get me through the weekend. I had a cough and cold 6 weeks ago and it's all gone to my chest and I'm still coughing and wheezing. I've had 2 lots of antibiotics and an inhaler. (And 3 negative PCRs). I just spoke to the doctor who has referred me for an urgent chest X-ray on Monday. Has anyone had similar and it not been anything too serious? I have had a cancer diagnosis in the past and 2 years of treatment and am freaking out!!

Post-viral cough/wheeziness is very common - it generally settles on its own but can take quite a while.

Sensible to get a chest x-ray but hopefully this will be normal. What sort of inhaler did the GP give you? A short course of an inhaler steroid can be helpful, though not always.

Hope everyone goes OK.

Thank you. I had a blue reliever inhaler and now have steroid tablets.

Might be pneumonia - I know that is not helpful

My child had same thing and it was pneumonia. He was given a 4 week course of antibiotics and after 3 days his cough/ breathing issues stopped. Try not to worry.

Thanks! Pneumonia I can handle!

My chest infection didn’t clear up with bog standard antibiotics. The gp sent me straight to the ambulatory care unit at our local hospital when I went for a second visit to see her. By this point I was coughing up blood and she was worried about a clot on the lung. I had x rays and scans which showed I had widespread double pneumonia which improved rapidly with stronger antibiotics. It sounds like pneumonia to me, hope you feel better soon.

Thank you @ScarlettDarling.

I appreciate everyone's replies. X
