Hi,

I don’t know why I’m posting here because I know nobody can tell me for sure but I just wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation.

A couple of weeks ago my mums breast became swollen and painful. I made her go to the GP who had them referred her to the breast clinic.

She was there today and her mammogram and ultrasound were clear. The doctor had said “she didn’t have cancer” and asked why she had been referred then said he would have a proper feel about etc.

However he examined her after this and said there was some thickening around the nipple and took a biopsy. She has to wait two weeks for the results.

I have googled and all that’s coming up is inflammatory breast cancer(I know googling is the worst thing I can do).
But now I am petrified that this is what it is and I feel physically sick. I don’t know how I’m going to go two weeks waiting because I’m so anxious with worry for her.

Do they have to tell you what they think it is or if it could be something sinister? He has said the GP will probably get the results so she doesn’t need to go back to the clinic so far…unless it’s bad news.

Anybody been through anything similar? Thank you xx

Sorry don't have much advice but if the mammogram and ultrasound were clear then that sounds promising.

There are many other things it could be. The mammogram was clear, so that looks hopeful.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier in the year and the day of my first appointment after a mammogram and ultrasound I was told it did look suspicious and they thought it was cancer. I still had to wait 2 weeks for the biopsy results but the way they all spoke it was obvious they were quite certain. I think they have a good idea of what they are looking at and if nothing showed on the mammogram and ultrasound I would take that as a good sign. Be reassured by the fact that 3 out of 4 women referred to the breast clinic are for benign reasons.
