Hi,

I'm just wondering how people navigated leave for a vasectomy? Does my DH need to use annual leave or can he be off 'sick'?

Thanks!

My DH took Friday off as annual leave and was back at work on Monday. Has a physical job, if that's relevant.

Annual leave as it’s an elective procedure

Annual leave. He likely won't need more than a day or so. Maybe time it for a Friday and then he has the weekend to recover

Spidey66 · 03/11/2021 10:14

I dont think it should be annual leave on the grounds it's an elective procedure. In the past I've had a hysterectomy, an arthroscopy and had my gallbladder out. All elective, all covered by sick pay.

I'm not saying whether it should be sick or annual leave just saying you can't say all elective procedures should be in your own time.

Like any other procedure that is chosen for non-medical reasons (eg most cosmetic surgery) then its annual leave for the day of the procedure (the person is not ill). But subsequent recuperation time that is medically required can be taken as sick leave.

The blokes I work with have taken it as an annual leave (and I've filed it under TMI!)

Thanks for the replies, he has a physical job so AL for the Friday and see how he is for the following Monday sounds the best idea.
