DD's school has a nursery on the premises (from 6wks to 5 yrs) 2 of the children from the nursery are in intensive care with whooping cough, and some other children from the nursery are suspected of having it too.

Also some of the school children are suspected too, but there are also various viruses going around (uisn't there always at this time of year!! )

Most classes in school have more than half the children absent with something!

So just how contagious is whooping cough, and how worried should i be about my 7 yr old getting it (I think it is more likely in the under 5s, but could be wrong)

TIA

Is your lo vaccinated? It is part of the normal routine ones if you had those. I think it is fairly contagious. I had it as a child, wasn't too bad with it really. My brother had it worse but neither of us were hospitalised so we were fine. We weren't vaccinated, something to do with a scare about brain damage from the vac in the 70's from what Mum said.

Hope your lo misses it.

Yes, she has had all her vacinations!

Glad to hear you and your brother weren't too bad with it!

Thanks, I'll keep my fingers crossed!
