Nipped by dog. Tetanus booster needed?

I got nipped by a dog while out on a run Angry. It broke the skin and bled a bit. I cleaned it up with TCP when I got home an hour or so later. I initially thought that's enough, but now I'm wondering if I need a tetanus shot or antibiotics. I'm away from home at the moment, do it'll be even more of a pain in the arse to see a GP.

Probably. Can you ring the out of hours Drs number for where you are atm to check?

The NHS recommendation is yes:

I would say you don't need a tetanus shot but more than likely antibiotics. Animal bites can turn nasty quickly.

Went to minor injuries unit. Neither ABs nor tetanus jab needed. I was seen within an hour (maybe more like half an hour). So, so grateful for the NHS.

I should add that the nurse practitioner said it was the right thing to come in, and that I need to keep a close eye on the wound, but that I would be fast tracked if I need to go in again to get ABs.

That's fab, better not to bed them but definitely best to keep an eye on it.

Bed = need

Def keep an eye. My son got bitten by mistake by our dog when she was a puppy. He was using his hand to tease her and in the midst of me waking over to tell him to stop she nipped him. Anyway, I took him to the doctor and they said if it swelled or anything to go to a&e. The next day I though it looked slightly swollen. My Dh thought I was crazy. But I took him to a&e...where he was admitted for X-ray- then kept in hospital for two nights receiving antibiotics on a drip. They were speaking of surgery to clean the wound down to the bone. I was so scared. Anyway, in the end the antibiotics worked and it was okay. But dog or cat bites can turn Nasty fast...sepsis. So keep a close eye.
