Leg cramps

I have often experienced agonising leg cramps, charleys horse, but recently have had frequent, most nights, painful ankle cramps which wake me up. When I wake up the foot is in abnormal position and I have to wiggle it to get it to normalise. It is very, very painful. Thyroid tests and kidney function are normal. I also have spasms and very, very frequent myoclonic jerks. Neurologists do not seem to know. Normal eeg and mri brain.

Can someone help me?

Sounds really tough op, any chance you have lots of tight muscles in your legs.. have you tried some good stretches to see if that can ease them off at all? You probably have but just trying to think of something as it sounds really horrible to wake up that way. Did they test vit b levels?

Thanks. Yes the stretches help afterwards. I have started some multi vitamins to see if that helps. My mum used to get them, I remember her crying out in the night with them, she had thyroid issues, but my TSH levels are normal.

Used to get bad leg cramps until I read that tonic helps. It has to be tonic with quinine in. Have a glass every eve. (Apparently you don’t even have to have gin with it. But I think it helps. Hic)

I take it you've tried magnesium?

I’m interested in this as my DD gets spasms in her toes/feet and it wakes her up.
She too young for a G&T though !
