OK before I go, I would just say I suffer anxiety especially relating to my health, so I am going to get this check out with the doctor as soon as I can get an appointment, so please can you try not to freak me out too much as I feel I am on the edge at the moment

2 days ago I have found a lump, its about the size of a 20p piece and its right at the end of the jaw bone, it doesn't hurt, and when i press it hard it moves around a little.

I made the mistake of googling to put my mind at rest and yes you guess it ended up totally freaking myself out.

Also have been suffering from a cold for the past few days as well (could this be connected)

Like I said I will be ont he phone first thing in the morning, but until then any reassurance will be much appreciated.

TIA

could be a swollen gland due to your cold - absolutely normal

by all means get it checked out to put your mind at reast

Is it up near your ear? My friend had this, like a lump that could be moved around. It was her parotid (sp) gland. It required a small operation and she was fine.

ArmadilloDaMan · 09/12/2007 17:32

prob swollen gland cos you're under the weather.

I get em lots. Are you having probs swollowing and getting achey pains in jaw as well? That's what I get.

crazylife · 09/12/2007 17:38

No problems swollowing.

Its just appeared and freaked me out.

I have known your glands to swell, but I have never heard of lumps before.

i was like you....googled it, then started to wonder if i had some sort of saliva gland infection. got a bit paranoid about it tbh. I'd give your cold a chance clear up and see if it goes away by itself. if it gets any bigger, starts to hurt, or you get any redness then you should se your gp.

This is so weird!!! I had exactly that 2 yrs - while I was still bfeeding Ds & panicked like mad. Saw Gp and he referred me to specialist. 2 yrs later I've been discharged - he put a camera down my nose, did x-ray for stones... but couldn't come up with anything. In the end they have said that its prob a blocked saliva duct. It has come back 3 times over the 3 years but unfortunately the specialist nevr actually saw it himself. He has said if it comes back again to see the Dr. Lumps are worrying aren't they and I definately think you should see your GP but hopefully it'll be nothing. By the way I have never heard of anyone else with it.

chocolateshoes · 09/12/2007 19:48

Specialist said he would remove it if I wanted but as he couldn't find it (cos I didn't ever have it when I saw him) it woukd be difficult. He really didn't seem worried at all - I've seen him 4 times in all and felt he was very thorough.

Please try not to worry.

Sounds like a swollen gland to me, i get them a lot. Also I have been told by medical professionals in the past that if you can move the lump around a little that usually means it is nothing sinister.
Good luck at the docs.

crazylife · 09/12/2007 20:37

Thanks Jen again thats reassuring.

I had these as a child and still sometimes get them now. Dr says they were blocked saliver glands and very common. By all means get them checked but they sound the same as what I had.

I went to the doctors who examined me and said she thinks its a lymph node raised to fight she recons a cold, its common.

I seemed quiet happy with her explaination and managed to put it out my head for a few days but I noticed today that its got bigger, I dont know whether its worth waiting for a few days to see if it goes back down or booking another appointment. Because I have health anxiety I am concerned about booking an appointment all the time.

Why don't you book an appointment for say 10 days away. You have then at least done something about it and know you can see the Dr then if neccessary as I find that health anxiety is helped if you have a sensible plan as to how you are going to deal with the problem symptoms rather than just endlessly worrying. That gives the lump chance to go down and you can then cancel the appointment, or if it hasn't you have given it time and can go back to the Dr without feeling you are wasting their time. If you do that, then try as best you can to put it to the back of your mind and think " I've taken steps to sort out this and I'm going to deal with this on the day of my appointment".

crazylife · 12/12/2007 15:51

thats a good idea thanks.
