okay can you make some chicken broth? if you need the recipie I can tell you but it lines the stomach again and if you can get some tiny tiny pastini they will be startchy to also cease the vomiting.
Can you also get some camomile tea very weak, tepid with a tiny biut of brown sugar - I find these work miracles for DD when she is upset in her tummy..

CrushWithEyeliner · 09/12/2007 15:14

oh and cease milk for 24 hours and then water half down
xx

We've had the winter vomiting bug at our house a couple of weekends ago and I called NHS Direct who recommended giving water even if it was being brought up. The actual vomiting only seemed to last 24 hours in our case but if it lasts longer I'd get on the phone to the GP.

For an unsettled stomach the BRAT diet seems to work very well for us.

Bananas
Rice
Apple (stewed)
Toast (WHITE, no butter)

These are good things to give once it is time to reintroduce food.

No milk for at least 24 hours after the last bout of sickness is what I have been told, and when you do reintroduce it do it gradually, not a full milk feed.

Keep up with the water, it will help even if he is just bringing it back up.

on her other thread she says she's still bfing - and that's the best thing to do during a tummy bug - carry on bfing

coby · 09/12/2007 15:36

Ahhh, hadn't seen other thread!

BF away then

2 celery sticks chopped through twice
1 carrot washed and cut through
half onion peeled chopped once
1 potato peeled and chopped into 4
1 organic chicken thigh (must have bone)
pastini (tiny pasta)

Ideally all organic produce

cover generously with water simmer in a med size saucepan for a 2-3 hours (the chicken should be cooked through)and you have your broth. Then string the chicken but discard the skin and bones, the veg should be mushy by now so you can inculde them if you wish. Then boil the pastini and add to each serving. It really is as simple as that - it will line the stomch again and even just a few spoonfulls will really nourish your LO.

Best of luck if you need anything else just write xx

Thank you everyone. Spoke to doctors and they said yo keep bf. Not to offer food until he stops being sick. He has gastroenteritis but seems to be a bit better today. Thanks again

Definitely BF! It is better than any rehydrating solution.

procrastinatingparent · 10/12/2007 15:12

And although it sounds tough, just try to give a very little bit of BM frequently as I found with my kids that a normal feed would just all come back up again. You feel awful taking them off the breast when they are still sucking and obviously thirsty but it wasn't until I started doing that that my 9 month old DS got better (he had been throwing up intermittently for 2 weeks!).

CrushWithEyeliner · 10/12/2007 19:13

you are wecome - when he stops vomiting it will work miracles I promise xx

He is still being sick withg runs and now has chesty cold and runny nose. Should i take him to doctors? just wondering whether they would do anything? thank you

yes take him to the doctors because that is quite a long time to still be ill (although diarrhea can remain for quite a while after the initial illness has gone).

I'm not sure if they can really do something - maybe an anti sickness tablet. But it's better to take him to the doctors today rather then risking needing a doctor at the weekend.

Iklboo · 14/12/2007 13:54

Ah - DS (2) also has been vomiting all day yesterday, 11:30 last night and (so far) last episode 7:30am today - which makes it 24 hours.
Hopefully it's going out of his system now.

(bless his little cotton socks - TMI ALERT - he trumped yesterday and 'followed through'. Looked up at me with worried expression and said "mummy - think pooed" )
