Clarithromycin

I replied to an old thread on this but it warrants a new one.

This antibiotic is horrible. I've had one this morning and woke up coughing so much that I threw up. Just woke up again and it took iron will not to vomit. I feel green but I do also look slightly yellow. I'm going to email my doc for a different one as this will be 5 awful days otherwise. I also have to attempt the supermarket to get some yoghurt to try and make it easier on my stomach to take the next dose in 1.5 hours. I genuinely feel worse than before.

Ask your GP/pharmacist for probiotics. It helps.

Oh wow they can give them out? I have some anyway at home that I just restarted.

Shall I stick out this drug? I mean I woke up feeling practically radioactive earlier. Just managed to get some yoghurt and mashed potato. I can't do econsult until 8.30am so I have another night to help decide.

It cleared my pneumonia a few years ago. I did feel very nauseous with it, but it worked much better than the other ones they gave me first. I'd stick with it yes.

Ask if there's a probiotic they recommend that doesn't interfere. I also found eating first then taking it an hour or so later helped for me.

I might have been someone on the old thread under a different as I have posted this before. I was prescribed it for pneumonia too, and whilst other antibiotics hadn’t touched it I could feel an improvement after only two doses of clarithromycin. But I just couldn’t stick it out OP, it was really really awful side effects for me. I got a different antibiotic on the second day because I really couldn’t hack it. Please don’t feel like you have to stick it out if it’s terrible Get well soon xxx

Thanks @atleastitswarm. I've taken the second dose so we'll see. I have to try and sleep upright as I don't want stomach acid irritating my throat.

Its very strange as it helps with sinus symptoms so you think you are feeling better but still poorly and then the vomiting.

How are you feeling OP?

There's a chance you could be allergic to it
