I have been diagnosed with an over active bladder, . I have been given medication to try and help. I have been taking the medication now for just under 2 weeks.

Now here is my predicament -

a) very dry mouth (and I mean a very very dry mouth)

b) my eye sight has become very blurry and I find that I am straining big time to see things close up.

c) I am not emptying my bladder enough when I go to the loo, so I am having to self catheter!

If I don't take the tablets then I can wet myself a good fair few times a day!

So I am now of the opinion what is worse - the side effects or the wetting!

Oh PB, how rotten fo you. What have they said for long term?

pinkbubble · 08/12/2007 22:22

They haven't! Just wanted to see what would happen with tablets! I can't believe one little tablet could cause this amount of trouble! Its a real shame really as I haven't wet myself now for 3 days - a record, but I am having a real tough time with my eyes, I can cope with the very dry mouth, even to a point cope with the self catheter, but the vision thing is awful. I cant thread needles, read a book, follow instructions etc.

How long have they given you to have a go of these tablets then? They don't sound like they're suiting you!

Lubyloo · 08/12/2007 22:27

Pinkbubble - it sounds like you are having a horrible time. It is probably worth you going back to the doctors as there might be a different drug you can take that doesn't have as many side effects. Were you aware that there would be these side effects? I think you should make your doctor aware of them.

I was told they could make my mouth dry and they also told me to make sure I was emptying my bladder. The only way I now of making sure I have emptied my bladder is to self catheter.

There was no mention of the blurred vision, I just happened to look up the side effects on the net, as I have been really struggling since Thursday with my sight. ( I wear glasses and recently had my eyes tested and everything was ok), in one sense I was relieved it was the tablets, just really cheesed off, I find something that stops me wetting and then I struggle to see!

i don;'t think those side effects are worth it do you?
there must be another tablet you can take?
have you ana pointment soon?

pinkbubble · 08/12/2007 22:37

I don't actually have an appointment at the mo, but I can ring the Nurse Specialist on Tuesday,

I don't think the side effects are worth it, but DH says they are! (he is really squeamish over things like this)

i know .give him the tablets, see how he likes it!

pinkbubble · 08/12/2007 22:48

Hmm, could just imagine him on tablets!

I do get very little sympathy of DH.

I suppose I have to weigh up the pro's and cons of either wetting myself or the blurred vision etc. Which is worst?

Have to admit with no wetting for 3 days has been an absolute bliss. At first I thought my eye sight was to do with my glasses (maybe they needed strengthening!) but then when I saw it on the net this was a sympton, I felt very dispondant.

Have spoken to the medical secretary today and she has informed me that my Nurse is on annual leave until next Wednesday! I know she deserves a break etc, but I could really do with talking to her right now!

Medical secretary has told me to try and persevere for at least the next week, she thinks it may be a reaction to the tablets and it may calm down! Lets hope it calms down sooner rather than later.

Is there no one else that could help you? Will keep my fingers crossed that the secretary is right and it will calm down. Please be careful if you drive.
