Depo Shot aftermath?

So will start from the beginning, had a medical termination 14TH FEB 21, Mar 15 got the depo injection, was due the next one around JUNE 11, but missed this due to moving house and having problems even getting an appointment at the surgery, so as it stands I've not had the second shot.

The whole time since starting the injection was on and off bleeding, not any heavy bleeding as such, I'd say a light-medium throughout. And probably for the whole 12 weeks I had 2-3 weeks where I wasn't bleeding spaced out.

I bled throughout the whole of July, I went to the doctors and he prescribed some norethisterone for me to take to give me a break from the bleeding.

I then had a normal period august, with two days of bleeding afterwards leading me up to this period.

I've currently been bleeding for almost four weeks now, with 2 days not bleeding , was light for a week then heavy and now it's heavy when I first wake up but then barely anything through the day. I'm almost always tired aswell, constantly have low energy all day. This morning woke up and then stood up and a lot of watery blood came out, all down my leg. I also had large blood clots at the beginning, where I was losing one every day for 3 days.

I've obviously googled, and you can imagine what's came up.

I'll be getting down the doctors tomorrow, I'm just looking for any ideas on what it could be or if anyone has been through something similar?

Could all this be the Depo? Maybe still the termination effects?

Depo made me bleed. I had 2 of them 12 weeks apart and then gave up. It also made me put on loads of weight

Hi, thanks for replying. Just wondering how long it'll take to come out my system, I only had the one in March. None since then

it’s perfectly normal they say it stops once your body’s used to it but it don’t tell them you don’t want to use depo. it’s not worth it

heinztomatosoup · 10/10/2021 15:48

I had similar experience years ago with depo. Bleeding on and off for months. Think I had 3 in total. Then took over 2 years to conceive successfully including 2 miscarriages. Once it had finally left my system all was fine and went on to have 3 successful pregnancies.

Get that it works for some people with no/reduced bleeding, but for others, maybe with "sensitive" hormones it is just a nightmare so if it doesn't agree with you just stop and be patient and it will eventually wear off. Obviously get checked at GP for reassurance. Good luck.

Yes, I only had the one in March. I've not had anything since then apart from using the norethistorone. By my account that should of ran out in June. It's now October and the bleeding is still like this, and getting worse. I will be going to the doctors tomorrow

After my first pregnancy I went on the depo and constantly bled so docs gave me a pill to stop the bleeding. If I remember correctly once I came off that pill which was something like a week I didn't start bleeding again until a month later and had a light period and then didn't have any period.

When I went on depo after second pregnancy I don't have periods at all or PMT or spotting.

I defo think the difference is reaction was to do with all the complications in my first pregnancy. But taking that pill...sorry can't remember what it was called, was simple enough, no other side affects, it just sorted it out. And I didn't need any tests or anything.

I’m having a similar problem with the bleeding.

I’ve been on the depo since July this year & I have bled everyday.. it’s been light, sometimes heavy & i’ve had clots too. I had a second shot in September as they advised it may stop the bleeding but it didn’t, doctors gave me 2 different medications to slow down/stop the bleeding and they didn’t work. I’m now just waiting for it to wear off as my next shot is due around December 13th but I’m not gonna get it done & hope to God I go back to normal soon. I wouldn’t advise it for anyone tbh now I’m reading all the stories on here I regret it so much, feel like I’m never gonna get my life back cause it’s an everyday occurrence :(
