Increasing dose of levothyroxine

I had a telephone appointment scheduled with my endocrinologist, however he lost my phone number so I didn't have the appointment. He wrote me a letter instead with an updated prescription.

He said after reviewing my recent blood tests, he was increasing my dose of levothyroxine from 25mg per day to 75mg per day.

I'm sure that it would be more sensible to titrate the dose up, rather than go from 25mg per day to starting at 75mg daily from tomorrow morning?

Does anyone have any advice on the best course of action?

Thank you

Well I have congenital hypothyroidism, I’ve been taking Levo since I was born, they always just upped it, no gradual build up. One time I went from 125 to 225 mcg. One doctor actually suggested I save them all up and take so many tablets at the end of the week, totally vetoed that idea....
just keep an eye and if it’s giving you too many issues just being it up with your doctor

How are your symptoms?

I take 150mg per day, but the Dr bases it on symptoms as well as blood tests. My understanding is that thyroxin takes a while to build up in your body, so if your dose jumps you need to keep an eye out for jittery symptoms and step back if you get them. Do you have a GP who you can talk to as specialists can be a bit harder to get hold of?

If you're worried can you take a lower dose for few weeks, see how your symptoms go, then have another blood test?

I was on 25 then went to 50 and v quickly to 75 and didn't notice any issues
To be honest I don't notice any difference whether I take them or not Confused my TSH was about 7.5 without and now is around 1.5

The pills make life bearable, but even when bloods are normal you still don't feel normal. I would give anything to feel like I did before I developed Hashimotos.

@Hardybloodyhar I'm just constantly tired. I never wake up and think oh I'm not tired today Blush

My advice on the best course of action is to do what your consultant has told you, as their advice will be based on your bloods, but if you're unsure contact them

I went from 50mg to 88mg just this week.

Hashimotos is a hellish condition. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy, as for trying to get a proper diagnosis, forget it.

It will be based on your blood levels. The consultant must think it was low and its not a big jump.
