Back story to this story: I suffered from quite intense bouts of abdominal pain, intense that paracetamol and ibuprofen won’t do anything, only codeine and that makes me drowsy enough to sleep. The pain comes on a dull ache like period pain, ie low down in the pelvis and then gets more and more intense. To the point of being debilitating and crying in pain, unable to sleep eat, can’t even feel when I need to pee. The pain would typically come, stay very intense for 6+ hours and then fade away, and I’d be left tender and exhausted. I’d describe the pain as constant with waves of intense pain on top of it. Its not constipation and it’s not perilous pain as it didn’t correlate at all to my menstrual cycle and I was on the pill (so not ovulation pain) and when my actual period would come I’d have little to no pain. I was 24 when I started having these pains, living alone, couldn’t get to a and e, so went to drs and they pretty much dismissed it as one of those things ‘women’s troubles’ or Ibs.
Fast forward to 2017, a really really intense bout of the pain came again, this time though It has me vomiting. Married by now and DH took me to a and e. Blood test inflammation markers high, admitted, nothing done scan 5 days later showed a thickened appendix, but pain subsided by then. Decision not to operate. Consultant was later struck off (not sure if that’s relevant but I’m putting it here)
Fast forward again to may this year, 14 weeks pregnant with dc2. Same pain again, start vomiting. Back to hospital, inflammation markers up clinical diagnosis of appendicitis which they treated with anti biotics.
Yesterday, 32 weeks pregnant pain came on the same as always, laid down thinking maybe just pregnancy pains. Pain became more intense, started feeling sick. Not sure if it was prem labour or what, called triage i went in. They were lovely. But by the time I got there I was feeling very sick, had to lie down on the monitor which was agony. No sign of contractions, baby doing well. Vaginal exam showed no dilation- pre term labour ruled out. I started vomiting, anything that hit my tummy i was bringing back up, to the point that I was dry heaving and vomiting bile. IV given to anti sickness, didn’t work, kept on vomiting. Finally stopped vomiting with painful af injection in the let. Pain was intense, with no respite and waves of really bad pain, i had iv paracetamol. They were worried it was appendix again so put me on iv antibiotics. In 4 hrs the pain had subsided and I was just tender and could eat and drink again. Blood was taken and inflammation markers weren’t up. The pain felt similar as all the other times before.
I honestly wasn’t faking or exaggerating, there were points I was just wimpering and pleading with god or whoever for the pain to stop. Saw dr in the morning and they discharged me as they couldn’t find anything wrong but good god. I feel like the worlds biggest faker but I know the pain came from somewhere but no clue where. The doc on discharge was like oh maybe gas, but we’ve all had trapped gas before and yes it’s uncomfortable and painful even but not writhing on a bed.
Anyone have any clue what this latest burst could be?
