“ the worst cold ever”

Anyone else suffering from what BBC dubbed the worst cold ever?? I’ve Recently recovered from Covid and this genuinely feels worse Confused

Started with a sore throat and blocked nose, quickly progressed to me sobbing when i swallow as felt like glass, endless coughing fits and feeling quite breathless any time I move. Covid tests ( LFT and PCR are negative) - GP says it’s viral and to continue to rest. My back and chest feel painful and bruised from the soreness of the coughing fits and I need suggestions of home remedies to suppress the cough until I can get out tomorrow for supplies!

All ideas welcome!

My 1yr old DD caught it in her first week at nursery, I caught it too and we had a few sleepless nights whilst also doing my first week back at work in a new team, it was a week from hell! Also still breastfeeding so was worried any decongestants would dry up my supply. Unfortunately have passed it onto my sister who saved the day with childcare so feeling very guilty Blush

Try adding honey to half an onion and letting it sit for a few hours. The resulting liquid is one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted, but it does wonders for a cough. I only use it when I'm desperate.

It's probably because your body thinks 'bollocks to that for a game of soldiers. No way I'm having that crap again. Antibodies - step it up!' 😄

NigellaAwesome · 29/09/2021 19:58

I have it too, started Sunday night. Monday was bearable and I was able to do stuff. Today and yesterday have been awful. In bed all day with headache, congestion, cough, temperature and shivers. I can't breathe when I move. I have asthma too, so using the inhaler a lot.

2 negative lateral flows and awaiting pcr result.

Only positive is that I have sent emails that have been hanging over me for ages as I am bed ridden

ivfbabymomma1 · 29/09/2021 19:59

Yep I had this about 2 weeks ago, I couldn't even swallow my own saliva without crying 😭😭😭😭

Begonias · 29/09/2021 20:01

Eldest DD started with lots of sneezing over 2 days followed by a cough and feeling achey all over. She had covid last year and said this was worse then covid for her.
Dd2 came back from school looking like she'd wrestled an elephant. She was sneezing quite violently and her eyes were red, had a temp, shivers and aches all over. LFT were negative for both, dd3 started today snotty nose, chesty cough. I'm just giving them paracetamol, lots of fluids and some good old fashioned menthol and ginger cough mixture .
Hope everyone starts feeling better soon x

Winecurestiredness · 29/09/2021 20:04

My DS 9 has had this all week and he feels very rough. I haven't caught it and neither has DS 5 but the eldest does have asthmatic tendencies so I think that's why he is suffering so badly

squirrelnutkins1 · 29/09/2021 20:06

I had it a few weeks back, the sore throat was similar to tonsillitis type pain, sooooo painful I couldn't sleep. I went to a supermarket pharmacy at 10pm one night to get a throat numbing spray it was that bad! Feel better soon x

cpjoli · 29/09/2021 20:12

Yep, a week in here. No energy, bunged up and random coughing fits but not covid. Feel so pathetic !

itsgettingwierd · 29/09/2021 20:14

Yes I have had it.

Last week wed/thurs I was dreadful.

Slightly better Friday but crashed into bed sat at 5pm.

Good news is I woke up Sunday a lot better and have felt ok since. Just struggling to shift the blocked nose but it's better than it was.

StarCourt · 30/09/2021 00:30

DD12 started this Sunday and had been off school all week so far. Swollen tonsils. Sore throat, sneezing, hurts to breathe , achey but very little coughing

Djifunrsn · 30/09/2021 00:32

I’ve got it. Bloody horrible.

Silverswirl · 30/09/2021 00:50

So many of these will be covid.
LTF don’t often pick it up and I have seen many people with a negative PCR with symptoms but when they retested a few days later it was positive.

It’s a pcr for symptoms which a temp and cough are! LTF are meant for testing with no symptoms!
BeaLola · 30/09/2021 00:58

Yep - have it here too - started Sat with the sore throat - thought I had tonsillitis- that went by Monday - am so bunged up , headaches, and the worst coughing - have also slept lots

Thankfully DS and DH are ok so far

QuestionableMouse · 30/09/2021 01:24

Codeine will suppress the cough. That and press a pillow to your chest when you're coughing for support.

TonyThreePies · 30/09/2021 01:28

I think that the common cold is a coronavirus? Just not Covid-19. And we've all been isolated for the best part of 18 months so have no immunity. It sounds shit though and I've started to feel rough this evening after spending a day this week with a colleague who had a negative LFT but a bug. Wish me well...

TonyThreePies · 30/09/2021 01:30

BBC Worst cold ever

0htooooodles · 06/10/2021 21:50

Had the same, felt better after a week but really can't shift the cough. It's awful 😭

DamnYouAutoCarRental · 06/10/2021 21:59

@Chosennone

Anyone have gastro issues. My DP and DD have had bad tummys and some vomiting alongside cold symptoms!? I've had had a fuzzy head, achey joints and sniffles for over a week! Countless negative LFT. Get well soon everyone.
Yes, can't decide if we've got 2 different bugs as one child had cold and vomiting, but seemed just a phlegmy sick, another child had cough and cold which mainly got better and then they started vomiting at the same time as DP and I did (we never seemed to have the cold). Did pcr tests for DC with coughs, both negative.

I think this is one of the worrying side effects of lockdown, no immunity to anything.

ImNotDancing · 06/10/2021 22:09

I have it now, just recovered from Covid and quite frankly I think this is worse!

FluffMagnet · 06/10/2021 22:35

Shitting hell, I've started with the cough and sore throat today (been snotty for a few days) and have a C Section booked in for a week tomorrow. Absolutely bricking it as I tend to hold on to coughs for weeks at the best of times.

coastergirl · 06/10/2021 23:02

I had covid in November 2020, very mild symptoms of aching and fatigue. Thought I'd got off lightly. However, I've had three colds since then that have absolutely floored me. Usually when I get a bad cold, I can carry on working with lemsip etc. But end of April, end of July and end of September this year I've had horrendous colds that I just couldn't cope with. I do wonder why!
