Breathlessness and pain

I’ve been getting suddenly breathless, it’s really horrible when it happens and can come on suddenly, even if I’m sat doing nothing. I’ve also started having pain (I’m not sure how to describe the area, sort of front of chest but it also feels like it’s in my back). This has been going on a Few months but I was reluctant to contact doctor til recently as it’s happening more frequently and it seems to be getting worse. Dr referred me quickly for an X-ray and blood test but they came back all clear. So what could be causing this?
I’ve just had to take painkillers as my ribs and back of rib area is hurting really badly and feels quite tight and it's worse when I moved so have sat down-no obvious cause. If something was wrong it would have shown on the X-ray or bloods surely so how can I can be in pain and discomfort like this regularly for no reason? Has anyone experienced this before?

Do you suffer with anxiety? I would go back to the Dr and explain that you still have the breathlessness and pain. Ask him what medical conditions the blood tests and X rays would have ruled out and what else does he think it could be.

Does the pain change when you eat particular foods? The way you describe it being round the back of your ribs made me wonder about gallstones. If the pain is coming/worsening after fatty foods, tell your GP and see what they say, they might suggest an ultrasound.
