DS (22 months) has blisters /ulcers in mouth

He's been off his food for a few days. Noticed one blister on his tongue yeserday and the ones just inside his lower lip today. He doesn't have spots anywhere else. Am going to GP tomorrow but can anyone suggest something to soothe it (he screamed with bonjela). I fully expect to get little sleep tonight. Fortunately I am still BF so can comfort him a bit but he obviously finds it painful to latch on.

Could be hand foot mouth disease? Have you checked the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet? Sometimes only come up in one place though. My DD had this and was quite under the weather for about a week - not on hands for her, just mouth and feet. She was off her food and ran a slight temp. Just gave her calpol rather than bonjela as she hated the taste. GP told us it was common childhood illness (I hadnt heard of it before then) and worse if adults catch it - proven as I caught it from her and had terribly sore throat and mouth. The blisters can be hidden at the back of the throat.
Have you tried cool yoghurt as a soothing food? Can hide calpol in this easily as well if your DS doesn?t like the taste.
Hope GP can offer more advice tomorrow.

Are there any blisters in between his toes/fingers or on the tip of his fingers. The reason I ask is that it could be hand, foot and mouth. You will see threads on this for more info. My dd had it and had a blister on lower inner lip and I knew it had passed to ds when his lower inner lip had exactly that a week later.

I have both my dss had this about 2 weeks ago. Doctor said it was the first sign of the herpes (coldsore) virus with ds1 unfortunately couldn't give me anything and ds1 is 4 - said it was contagious and ds2 got it a few days later only thing they could suggest was calpol. Is your ds old enough to take calpol. It cleared up after 3-4 days but ds1 was much worse than ds2.

Thanks everyone. Thought it might be hand , foot and mouth but he is clear. He is drooling which suggests he finds swallowing difficult so wonder if there are any at the back of his throat too. He had half a fromage frais today but started to cry...he is obviously hungry and makes me feel really upset. At the moment he feeds like a newborn (once he gets over the initial discomfort) but don't know how much goodness he gets out of my milk at this stage. Have given him Calpol too.

I second the ice cream. It's the only thing my poor dd would eat when she had hand foot and mouth. She got it 3 meals a day for 3 or 4 days. She was begging for real food by the end of it.

I look forward to a Ben And Jerry's, Green and Black's, Haagen Das food fest toorrow. Okay for breakfast do you think?! He went to sleep at 8.30 and is so restless - I want him in bed with me but DH less than keen...

Thanks for asking Scaltygirl. He's fine. Doc reckons hand, foot and mouth but I remain sceptical as the rash was all over him. Has now gone apart from on bottom but his mouth is fine and he's eating again.

Ice-cream was/is fab. Sains has special offer on Haagen Dasz (would think I would know how to spell since I eat so much of the stuff) two for £4 - I kid you not!! Thought the girls might get it too so I bought lots (too shaming to admit to amount).
