itssuchashame · 21/09/2021 16:51

Does anyone know if naproxen can affect period length? Im on a course 500mg twice a day for a couple of weeks ending tomorrow for back pain but my period this month lasted only a day instead of several as usual. Tia

I haven't heard of that side affect but I'd check with your GP

I have been taking it for about a year, no problems with my period, in fact I couldn’t survive my periods without it.

Do you take it for period pain? I was told its a strong painkiller hence the presciption. Wondering has it helped you through easing a heavy period perhaps which Id imagine is along the same lines? I may be way off i am clueless medically!

@itssuchashame I take I’d for other reasons, I have fibromyalgia and take when needed, but I always need it for my period. I’ve always had unbearable periods, I take naproxen as part of a cocktail of strong pain meds to get me through the first 24 hours or so.

I've taken it for over a year it's an anti inflammatory as far as I understand. In the ibuprofen family

daisyjgrey · 21/09/2021 17:42

I've been given it for period pain and lower back pain after lumbar punctures and had no issues.

Did you have a covid vaccine before your last period? Mine made my cycle go weird for a bit.

It's a similar drug to ibuprofen and I know that can definitely help to shorten /lighten periods.
