Food poisoning?

Have had a horrible few days. Woke up in the middle of the night on Thursday with excruciating lower abdomen pain. Couldn't shake it, went to the loo. Didn't help. Vomited a few times. Went back to bed, still in a lot of pain, but managed to fall asleep

Next day felt a bit off, mid afternoon, went to loo. Lots of blood in the toilet. Thought I'd keep an eye on it. Lots of cramping. Went to the loo again, then more blood coming from my backside. Bright red and looked like clots

Rang nh24, was in hospital last night. Bloods came back normal, was told it could be food poisoning? Is this normal? Came home from hospital, felt the need the go to the loo again, but passed a huge clot thing that was basically thick mucus blood. I've take pain killers, which helped a bit, but the pain has come back with a vengeance

Has anyone else experienced this?

Could this be some sort of colitis type flare up? Although I'm guessing bloods would have shown that? I really don't know. It sounds extreme for food poisoning...

@gailplattshairbrush I don't think so. Never experienced it before. I sometimes get lower cramp pain, similar to period cramps. But it's very mild. This seems more intense and very painful

I have the implant, so haven't had a period in over two years. When I was experiencing the cramping and went to the loo, I thought it was my period. Until I realised it was coming from behind

And I felt I needed "to go" but it was just blood clots coming out

But been told it's food poisoning. Thankfully haven't had it today, but still experiencing cramping which is quite painful

Sounds awful op!

Have you ever had anything like this before? Have you been abroad recently- somewhere you might have picked up an intestinal worm? Did the hospital take a stool sample to examine? What follow up did they advise?

BippityBoppity87 · 19/09/2021 00:15

@Spikeyplants Haven't been abroad. They did ask if could give a stool sample or urine, but I had been there for about 7 hours by this point and was 4am, very tired and just wanted to go home

Was lying in a hospital bed for about two hours, whilst I got my blood work back. They offered a bed pan, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that to check if it was a UTI. I've had a UTI before, and it's completely different to what I'm experiencing now

So you didn't give them a stool sample at all?

Spikeyplants · 19/09/2021 00:20

In the 7hrs you were there? It would been very useful for them to be able to analyse what might/might not be the cause!

I couldn't. They asked, but they didn't pressure me to. They said I could go home, or stay for further tests. But I was very tired and wanted to go home

@BippityBoppity87 campylobacter does cause a lot of blood in stool and just blood in general. Plus a lot of cramping.

I have a picture but won't post it if it might trigger folk
