Lump in armpit

Mvshrln · 16/09/2021 14:00

I have quite a firm lump in my armpit. Will call doctors tomorrow, but would appreciate others experiences please. I'd like to think it's a reaction to shaving (I shaved using a cheap razor last Sunday (hadn't used that razor before and it had been in the bathroom cupboard for God knows how long) then the following day my armpit felt so sore on one side, then really tender and felt the lump the following day.) But health anxiety and the possibility of it being something else wants to convince me otherwise. I can't see the lump but can feel it when I poke around and it feels sore.

I've has the same recently and mine has gone away now but I read a thread on here the other day that a lot of women have been experiencing this after the vaccine.

Mvshrln · 16/09/2021 14:18

@PivotPivotPivottt thanks for your reply :) I did see a few threads about the vaccine, but my 2nd one was in July and on the other arm, so I don't think it's that..

It will be sore if you keep poking it !
You will also make it inflamed, so it will be bigger.
Leave it alone today/tonight and gently feel it tomorrow.

I get these when I've used a blunt razor. I'd keep something warm pressed against the area and take ibuprofen if it hurts. It'll probably go away in a couple of days.

Mvshrln · 16/09/2021 15:28

@GoodnightGrandma you're right about poking it making it inflamed, I didn't think of that! Confused Grin good idea, I will try to leave it alone. Thanks for replying :)

@user1477249785 it would make sense for it to be from a razor but I struggle to not assume the worst D: I have terrible posture too and really slouch to the right when I'm working at a laptop so I feel really tight in my shoulder and my mind just goes wild with thought!

Sounds like a boil to me, staph infection from the razor. More likely if you stressed and run down too. Make sure doc checks though 💐

feesh · 16/09/2021 15:42

Sounds random, but do you use those 48hr cream anti perspirants? I find those gather under my skin and cause lumps - and I can actually squeeze the white stuff out (and it smells of the deodorant). It’s strangely satisfying whilst also being slightly disturbing…..

Mvshrln · 16/09/2021 17:31

@pepsirolla the lump is underneath the skin rather than having an external opening, which I think a boil has? I'm not sure :s but yes I do feel stressed and run down that's for sure! Weirdly I had a lump under the same armpit a few months ago and the doctor suggested it was a reaction to an oven burn on my arm.

@feesh oh interesting! That does sound super satisfying lol. I use that cream Sure deodorant, so I wonder if I used the cheap razor which irritated my armpit then whacked deodorant over it which irritated it.. I just don't know D:

The Sure cream definitely causes lumps for me…..

CottonSock · 16/09/2021 18:34

Mine is extra boob tissue. It even leaked milk during breastfeeding.

Grenola · 16/09/2021 20:37

Ooo I have the exact thing going on. Mine has been there for 9 days now.
Will be going to the docs tomoz if I can’t get on the phone cuz it isn’t going.

Kittii · 16/09/2021 20:44

I had this and it was a lymph node. It took 3 weeks to get smaller and it's actually still there 6 weeks later. No signs of illness/scratch/bump or anything and I had my last covid jab back in April so unlikely to be that.

I've had breast cancer so got it checked by my consultant and definitely just a lymph node. Weird that it's only on one side. I've started using natural deoderant now in case it was related to deoderant.

pepsirolla · 16/09/2021 21:05

I had one behind my ear when I was a stressed student on typical poor diet. It started off as just a painful lump though eventually head developed Confused. I remember the nurse saying to put a hot flannel on it keep clean and take painkillers. Please get checked hope you better soon

Mvshrln · 16/09/2021 21:08

@feesh I've been using it for a few years although I mostly used dove and also used spray deodorant this week which I've not used in years. It's strange the amount of things that can cause lumps!!

@CottonSock oh wow! That mustve been a shock :s

@Grenola good luck at the doctors :) it's strange isn't it. Mines just this odd hard lump but right at the edge of my armpit. It's really stressful :(

@Kittii I'm glad yours was just a lymph node! Natural deodorant sounds like a good way to go!

@pepsirolla I'm glad yours went away! Mine is under the skin so can't see it, just feel it, although the surface of the skin was so tender and pink earlier this week.

I will Definitely go to the doctors though as the replies here show it could be a variety of things caused by a variety of reasons. I just hate the stress it causes and my mind runs riot :(
