Infected Wound? ****WARNING GROSS FANNY PIC****

sensibleheartxo · 15/09/2021 22:35

Sorry for the graphic pic but I can’t shave down there atm as it’s so painful.

About 6 months ago I had a rather sore bit in my groin, right in where my thigh meets my pubic area. I’m quite overweight so can’t see this myself but dp said it looks like a small hole. It is weepy and smelly. The red line has developed in the last few days and now there appears to be the beginning of a new sore developing. Over the last 6 months I have had 3 courses of antibiotics which have done nothing to help. I finally saw my gp a few weeks ago and she is referring me to someone, (I’m not sure who though?!) gave me the 3rd lot of antibiotics and left me to it. I’m in so much pain all the time and it’s really getting me down. Should i go back to gp or just wait until the referral comes though? What can they do for me if the last 3 courses of antibiotics haven’t worked?

Ring your GP immediately.

NorthernDramaLlama · 15/09/2021 22:40

Yip, ring GP - take a recent photo in case you need to email it. They might not be able to do anything the self, but may be able to push you up the list. Hope you feel better soon

PickAChew · 15/09/2021 22:42

I think you need to get to A&E with that. It looks septic.

User952 · 15/09/2021 22:47

Could it be an ingrown hair? Do you have a fever or any other symptoms? Like others have said I'd call 111 as this should speed up the process of being seen by a consultant at the hospital

RicherThanYew · 15/09/2021 22:49

That's not good Op, get it checked.

MaverickDanger · 15/09/2021 22:49

I get what looks very similar to this, I’d go to your GP and ask about hidradenitis suppurativa.

I second this. I have HS and get sores like that in my groin area and armpits.
bamboobird · 15/09/2021 22:51

Definitely GP or 111

Nannyamc · 15/09/2021 22:55

Had sores like this. As i was overweight gp investigated. Turns out i had diabetes type 2. Antibiotics cream and started on metiform medication. After losing weight it disappeared. Blood tests needed.

Antinerak · 15/09/2021 22:57

GP or 111 ASAP.

Thanks everyone. I’ve been sat here crying tonight because it’s really getting me down then started thinking maybe I’m just overreacting and being dramatic and I should just ride it out until someone gets in touch with me. I think I’ll call my gp again tomorrow and ask for stronger/longer antibiotics.

Yes maverickdanger & whattheschitt the gp did say it seems I have this and prescribed me lymecycline which I take every day now but I thought that was more like hard, under the skin boils. This is a very open, weepy wound could this also be hs? Sorry to hear you go through this too, it’s truly horrid.

The red line would worry me if that's new. You need to mark where it ends now and definitely call 111

BlueberrySugar · 15/09/2021 23:09

I'd not bother with the GP and actually go through to 111.

There is another sore under that? It looks so so sore.

BlueberrySugar · 15/09/2021 23:09

Also if you can't see it properly. Prop your leg up on the side of the bath/toilet and get a mirror

MaverickDanger · 15/09/2021 23:10

That’s how they start on me but then quickly burst and look like yours with the weepy sores. I know how painful it is and how gross it feels.

I have some scarring mainly on my groin, DH sweetly says he doesn’t notice. I find hibiscrub from Amazon seems to keep them slightly at bay & I didn’t get any for ages when I lost weight. Had a weepy sore recently that cleared up after 2 weeks which has kickstarted me to try and lose the final baby weight.

Definitely call your GP and also look at some HS support groups. The mental side of it needs support too. Sending lots of healing wishes.

Nat6999 · 15/09/2021 23:12

That looks like it might need draining & packing, you need to see a doctor. It's where skin on skin meets, it sweats & then infection gets in through a hair follicle or where fungal infection breaks down the skin. Have a bath with Epsom salts, pat it dry & put some gauze on it until tomorrow. Once it is better I would use some Mitchum cream deodorant in the crease to stop sweating & antifungal cream like Daktarin or Canestan to stop fungal infections.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/09/2021 23:15

I think you should just go to A&E. I rang 111 last week (Tuesday) about a suspected weeping wound in a cast. At 2.30 they told me my GP would call by 6.30pm. At 4.45 I took the view that I would go to A&E and register pending the GP call. I am still waiting for the GP call Back!

Yes it sounds very much like this
Bakingtraypan · 15/09/2021 23:29

I healed my HS through diet. I found my triggers and it took a while but mine was really bad and now it’s fine I just avoid a couple of foods and I’m ok / just the odd very small sore around my period. There’s a really good Facebook diet group if you are interested- not everyone wants or believes in this solution.
