Yes, It can be a symptom of low iron. I hope you are feeling better soon Flowers

It can also be a symptom of low B12/folate , vitamin D deficiency, hypothyroidism etc, some of these things can go hand in hand.

FreedomAintWorthNothing · 15/09/2021 19:37

Drinking tea or coffee inhibits the absorption of iron.

I felt increased anxiety with low iron. It was hard to differentiate between fatigue and anxiety at times but I can say that this passed when my iron got a little higher.

Anemia is really awful, hope you improve soon

Low iron certainly makes my heart race, which could add to anxiety I imagine.

@DeletedByAccident i have had everything else tested and levels look good folate was at 4 they said it was normal but i did some research and read it's on the low end so iv started over the counter folic acid and my vitamin d was really good but my hemaglobian was 10.7 and ferritin 8 c

Glad you are taking folate too with that level, it does depend on your lab reference range but that would be the lowest end of normal where I am!

Taking the iron with orange juice can help absorption. Interestingly I read a study that taking a double the dose every other day, rather a lower daily dose, increases ferritin levels quicker but I know most GPs still stick to the take daily advice. I’ve had a quick google but can’t find the link -sorry.

Daisy897 · 15/09/2021 20:36

yes i thought it's the lower end of normal and i have been feeling awful!can i ask what iron you take please?i don't feel these sulphate are doing anything today i took a dose of floradix too as it has the b12 in it aswel x

3 x ferrous fumerate per day, they swapped me from ferrous sulphate but I can’t remember why. It can take a few weeks for levels to increase. My GP usually does a repeat blood test after 3 months to check my levels have gone back into normal range.
