I need to get tested for std's.

Can anyone tell me how long the results will take?

Also how do the results come? Are they sent by post/phone or do I have to go back?

Do I have to give them my name and will it go on my medical records?

I'm a regular and have name changed.

Depends where you go, a friend of mine was having problems bleedign after sex and then discovered her fella was a bit of a tart so was petrified.
IIRC, she went to the GUM clinic, had the tests and then went back about a week or two later, don't know if they put it on her medical records.
If you were to call your local GUM clinic they would answer all these questions for you without any need for a name btw.
Good luck.

hi i have had routine ones done before by my gp and took a week for results i had to phone for them

not sure about if you go to gum clinic im sure though they are confidential not on records probably similar waiting time for less serious can be few months for more serious and sometimes more tests need to be done in between

good luck sorry your having to go through this

if you go to a GUM clinic you can give your name as Minnie Mouse - just make sure you remember the name you gave! Can't help re timescales, I'm afraid - probably differs between specific tests.

Thanks. It would probably have to be a clinic.

I have anxiety which is why I can't just ring and ask. It'll be hard enough making an appointment.

I don't deserve any sympathy either. It's my own stupid fault.

Having to go through this isn't nice no matter why you are, as long as you learn from it I don't see any problem personally.
We all make mistakes.
I've got to clear off for now, but I'll happily call up and ask these questions for you tomorrow when the GUM clinics open if you like.

coupleofquestions · 04/12/2007 17:43

Would you really? It would really help me if I knew. Thank you so much

Yeah, just let me know the kind of area you're in and I'll call, you can email me it if you'd prefer not to put it on here.

For anyone that wants to know or may search in future.

The GUM clinic has said that results take between one-two weeks, and they can either text or call to let you know the results.

If the results come back as positive (i.e. if you have something) they will call you straight away to get you back in for treatment, if they are negative you do not have to go back.

You can give them any name you want and nothing is put on medical records.

Different clinics have different sessions, normally working hours though, so best to call your own clinic to get a suitable appointment.
