How long should it take to recover properly from shingles?

I had shingles a couple of months ago and since then have felt really awful. I had antiviral medication, which made me feel really odd, and took one week from work.
Since then I've had recurrent colds and coughs, been ill with V&D a few times.

Now I feel really ill, I've got a chest infection, I'm being sick and nothing touches my head-ache.

DP insists that I've picked up viruses from small children and shingles had no long-lasting effect.

I'm primary carer for elderly mum and I can't cope with this constant illness.....could it be post-shingles?

Any advice welcome!

Can't help but I do vaguely know someone who had shingles and she was ill and off her work for a long time.
