Pain after tooth extraction

I had a tooth out on Monday. The pain I am in now is agony. Been back to the dentist yesterday and he says no infection and pain is normal. Now I'm not a wuss and have a high pain threshold. This pain is unbearable. Has anyone else experienced this after a tooth extraction?? How long were you in pain if so?

Could it be dry socket?

Apparently it’s agony and they don’t know what causes it. It just happens sometimes. My mum had it and was told to take paracetamol. It didn’t touch the pain at all.

In America apparently they give you morphine or something strong like that for the pain. We get paracetamol. Sounds about right. Sigh.

If you’re in agony phone the out of hours doctor at nhs24 and see if they can do anything but I think you may get told what my mum did. Sadly.

I hope you feel better soon.

Ps when I got a tooth out I didn’t even need paracetamol when the numbing wore off as the pain was so much less than the toothache had been it was great.

The pain of the last one took over a week to bugger off.

I had one out. It took 3 trys each time it was agony worse than original tooth ache. Rang my gp in tears she gave me tramadol sorted me right out.

Sounds like a dry socket, this is when the clot has been lost from the extraction site. If it is, your dentist can place a dressing in the socket. This will help immediately but will still be painful. You have increased chance of dry socket if you smoke or use a vape......the pain is unbelievable. Telephone the surgery tomorrow and follow their emergency procedure ,& ask if you can get them to look at it again.... the dressing is called Alvogyl.......

Dry socket. Do you smoke?

paulhollywoodshairgel · 12/09/2021 00:48

Thanks for replies. No I don't vape or smoke. I think I'll ring the out of hours gp tomorrow to try and get some stronger pain relief. It's that sort of pain that makes me want to hit myself if that makes sense. An endless throb. 😭😭

Just read up on dry socket and it sounds like that's what it is. Thanks everyone x
