Constant headache 5months and still going

Hi, wondered if anyone had anything similar and managed to work through it. My husband has had a tension type headache since April of this year. We've tried everything and are desperate to try and sort it, we're waiting for his appointment to come through from the neuology department. He's been seen by ENT, it's not sinus related, he's had a CT scan which didn't show anything. He's having accupuntcure (3 sessions so far), sports massage, osteopath sessions, tried amatriptalyne and felt dreadful and has now started taking topirimate which isn't much better and isn't helping. General painkillers don't touch it at all. We are trying to get an appointment with a hypnotherapist.

There's nothing new or different about our lives, no obvious triggers. He's always suffered a bit with headaches and more frequently over the 12 months before this constant one kicked in. We have a healthy(ish) diet, he doesn't drink much alcohol or caffeine or smoke etc drinks plenty of water. He's fit and healthy in all other respects.

It's now just awful, he's exhausted, depressed and starting to struggle to hold it together, his mental health is taking a serious battering as he tries to keep going with normal family life.

Has anyone else suffered like this with headaches and did you manage to fix it?

Sorry to hear he is struggling.

My mum suffered like this for years. A new doctor tried her on beta blockers and that worked for her. She still gets occasional migraines which she is on medication for.

Hope they get to the bottom of it soon.

High blood pressure ?

TripleTipplePipple · 11/09/2021 14:38

He's already on beta blockers for a hereditary tremor. Blood pressure done last week and it's fine. We are just at a loss

Has he had his vitamin levels checked? I had this but it went away 4 weeks after taking iron tablets. Turned out my iron level was only 3 points away from being considered anaemiac.

B12 deficiency caused my headaches.

TripleTipplePipple · 12/09/2021 17:52

@igotdemons we did think about vitamins but he's pretty good at taking regular multi vitamin/Vit D/cod liver oil but will have a look again, especially B12 thank you @Dustymaiden

Has he had his eyes tested?

I was suffering awful like this and I found my sleep pattern and the fact I started to study a course and had undiagnosed dyslexia so was straining all the time. Even tho I had glasses. So a type of tension.
I take amitriptaline at night but just 10mg and that has helped me sleep better and not need a nap.

It really is the Pitt’s, mine started September last year and only just had my first month of it being under control

Have a look at status migrainosus / intractable migraine. Does that fit?

DustyMaiden · 13/09/2021 12:25
