Private or NHS Dentist?

Basically - we moved back to UK 2 years ago and (we the parents) haven't been to dentist yet (due to Covid) the kids were registered at NHS dentist and have been seen. Yes I suppose we have been a bit naughty 🙈
DH can feel something isn't right with one of his teeth and seen as I don't particularly like the kids dentist and the waiting times are atrocious I was thinking of going private. Opinions?
Will it be mega money? Will it be better quality? He will need to be seen this week which will be near impossible at all the NHS dentist near us.

Most dentists have a private insurance scheme you can join, such as Denplan, where you pay regular monthly premiums and are covered for dental check ups and an agreed amount of further treatment as required.
I would ask people locally for recommendations of good dentists, then approach the most promising one to discuss it.
Alternatively, you can just “pay as you go”, but always get a quote first.
I do this, but my dentist is v reasonable on prices and I haven’t needed any treatment other than scale and polish in a decade.

Private dentists will definitely be better quality.

I have a private dentist, the cost of check-ups are around 15% higher than DH pays at his NHS surgery and, to be honest, most things he has ever needed (eg white fillings) have not been covered by the NHS (rightly obviously) so we pay very little difference.

I have seen the same dentist via NHS and private and the quality of work is exactly the same .... but the wait time is so much less, I’ve always been sen immediately and it’s Worth paying the extra for that in my opinion

Not necessarily. I was treated appallingly by one private dentist. There are good and bad everywhere.
