Mass found in uterus

I was taken to A&E last night. During the day I experienced what I first thought was period pains. However they became so painful that I wasn’t able to do anything. I had been bleeding fairly lightly until the afternoon when I started flooding and passed a huge mass and my coil. I called 111 and they told me it was probably a miscarriage. However I started to lose a lot of blood soaking through many sanitary pads and losing more large clots so I ended up in A&E. I’ve been on the ward today and had various tests done including a scan that showed up a mass in my womb. They saw a fibroid as well which is already documented in my notes but for some reason they want to investigate this mass and take tissue sample for analysis. I must admit I’m absolutely terrified of what the results will show. I have two young children who are my world. I can’t bear the thought of them growing up without me not being able to make sure they are safe and ok and at their ages they probably wouldn’t even remember me 😔

I’m on the ward and haven’t seen the doctor in charge. It’s 8.15 now so I doubt I will see them tonight. I was told I probably won’t get the results until early next week.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are fibroids always diagnoses on ultrasound? Does this mean this probably isn’t a fibroid and is something else? I’m immediately imagining the worst outcome

Oh poor you. How scary for you. I’ve not had experience of this but didn’t want to read & run. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along soon. Flowers

How are you today? I hope you get to see someone Flowers

Sorry you’re going through this Flowers

A good friend of mine has just been through a similar scenario. She had a fibroid growing inside her to the point she looked 6 months pregnant.

They could see it was there but she had ultrasounds to pin point exactly where. She also had a biopsy and thank goodness it didn’t show anything sinister.

Before she knew she had this fibroid she also suffered terribly with heavy bleeding and cramps.

She’s just now recovering from an op to remove it, she was unfortunate because it had also wrapped itself around her ovaries so she had a hysterectomy too.

Really hope you get answers soon

Thanks, Im still on the ward. I managed to get some sleep last night after the nurse gave me two sleeping tablets. I’ve had a shower and cleaned my teeth so felt a bit better after that but am very tearful at the moment. I’m hoping to see one of the doctors today so I can ask more questions. I’m also hoping they they do the biopsy

Thanks, yes I’m hoping it’s just another fibroid. I’m crossing my fingers that it is

I had 2 a few years back, it was adenomyosis. I also had my coil hanging out because of them. It needed a hysterectomy but I've never looked back and had finished having children. Hope your seen soon

Hi thank you so much for your reply. It’s given me hope. When you say 2 do you mean you had two masses and did you get your diagnosis vis biopsy? Did they see them on a scan first? I’m still on the ward, the bleeding has tailed off a lot. I haven’t seen the docs today yet or had a biopsy. I think they must be really busy.

Mine were diagnosed as benign from ultra sound and mri. There were 2 masses yes. Have you been seen yet?

Hi, thanks for your reply, yes I’m home now. I saw a doctor yesterday afternoon and he took a biopsy. It was fairly quick but they told me I won’t get any results back for 7-10 days whereas the first doc I spoke to said early next week. I did look at the discharge notes last night before I went to bed and regretted it because it mentioned some vascularity which I think can be a bad sign. I also saw the size of it it’s about the size of an orange. I’m thinking why take a biopsy if it’s nothing to worry about. I’m going to try and get some sleeping pills from the gp tomorrow.

Hi OP,
Just wondered if you have got your results back and how you are doing. X

Hi OP, I hope you have some answers now too

I had a similar experience but could feel the mass in my uterus and was referred as an emergency to a gynaecologist.

He was so dismissive - basically said he was fed up of GPs making such a fuss about things like this. They scanned and I was diagnosed with 2 masses one of which was pressing on my bladder causing me all sorts of problems. I was also diagnosed with Adenomyosis.

The gynae didn't even take a biopsy - said basically unless they grew bigger he was confident they were 'just' fibroids and that was that and once through menopause I would probably be fine!
