Flexible sigmoidoscopy

I have to have a flexible sigmoidoscopy. Can't wait! Hmm I've been given a Cleen Enema to use 2hrs before and told I can eat normally until I do the enema. Has anyone had a sigmoidoscopy recently? What can I expect?

You can expect to poo a lot 🤣🤣 the sigmoid is just the first bit of the intestines , so it's not at all painful. You'll go in , wear a gown and lie on your left side. You'll be in a mini theater with a nurse and a doctor. There will be screens that will show the doctor your insides. They will monitor your blood pressure and heart rate. While they are doing the scope they may fill your intestines with air just to expand them. Feels a bit crampy and you will pass this usually as they remove the camera. Once you are done then you can usually just go home.

Perfect description by romdowa, painless procedure and quite interesting watching your insides on the screen. Worst bit for me was the enema prep beforehand and having to hang around near the loo until it worked.

Thank you! I'm sure the thought of it will probably be worse than the actual procedure. Did either of you limit your food intake or do a low residual diet on the day before butt cam?

Definitely, it honestly doesn't hurt at all. I am trying to remember re diet ( was a while ago.) l think possibly a light diet of 'white' food was recommended eg eggs, toast, fish for example and plenty of fluids.
