Can doctor's reject a referral?

Wondering if anyone knows much about this. I'm going to be vague as annoy as that may be.

Months ago I noticed my dd had an issue, not an urgent one but one I thought needed looking at. I called the GP, he asked for some pictures and said he'd refer her on. I assumed to pediatrics as my GP doesn't really do much with children due to the surgery rules. (Dd has more serious health issues and we're often in peads.) But now we've received and appointment to a big children's hospital, not even a local one, to an expert doctor. Looking online I can see lots of other children have had this issue and have been treated by a gp easily.

I'm just wondering if the doctor we've been referred to has seen what she's coming for and okayed the referral, or if he's going to wonder why we're wasting his time with a minor issue?

Tia

I imagine the GP has also detailed your DD’s more serious issues also.
It could be that any treatment needed needs to be liaised with the team that already treats her so they don’t have any treatment/medication issues or interactions.

Referrals are triaged on receipt. If they are rejected the referrer should have received a rejection letter/ notification. Call your gp to check

Sorry misunderstood. Nevertheless the referral would have been rejected if it wasn't felt to warrant an appointment

HCP's can reject a referral back to the referrer, or to another service if they feel its more appropriate. If the referral has been accepted then its been 'okayed'. (I used to deal with rejected referrals daily)

Okay thank you everyone, if it's been checked then hopefully we're not wasting anyone's time.
