The gp can prescribe a pill for it. I know a few girls at school delayed theirs when we went away on school trips. Merry Christmas!

whomovedmychocolate · 03/12/2007 19:38

Pregnancy is normally fairly effective

Otherwise the pill does work quite well if you start about now.

EmsMum · 03/12/2007 19:39

well yes, the pill! I quite often take packs back to back to avoid periods.

Fubsyinapeartree · 03/12/2007 19:51

If youre not on the pill theres a progestogen only thing you can take, but you might have to start it soon, so best to see your GP asap.

Thanks. Pregnancy not an option wmmc because I'm 43, but horny as hell just lately and so is b/f. ShowOfHands, do you know what pill it is that the gp can prescribe? Would rather not take contraceptive pill, perhaps I should just let things happen and stop being so damn teenage like.

Its called noresthistoren or something similar! I took it to stop my periods when I was having very painful ones, as I didnt want to go back on the pill because of migraines.

stripeytiger · 03/12/2007 20:08

am a bit embarrassed to ask gp, but I guess that is going to be the only way.

Noresthisterone I think it was!

I know, its a pain having to ask for things like that, but it is licensed for that purpose, so I cant see it being a problem.

WigWamBam · 03/12/2007 20:43

It's definitely Norethisterone, and your GP wouldn't bat an eyelid if you were to ask for it. You'd start taking it before your period was due, then stop once you wanted it to start - it would then start within two or three days.

I'm taking it at the moment for period problems, and to be honest it's horrible. It makes me feel sick, I have constant and raging PMT, could quite happily stick a knife into dh for the stupidest of reasons.

I have to take it for three months before the doctors will look further at the problems I was having, but if I didn't have to take it I wouldn't.

Not trying to put a dampener on things, but thought you might prefer to be aware that it's not always the nicest of things to take, even if you're doing it for the nicest of reasons!

Fubsyinapeartree · 03/12/2007 20:49

I didnt notice any real probs while on it, but Im also on medication for stress incontinence that works like ADs, so maybe I was just oblivious!

stripeytiger · 03/12/2007 20:50

Yes, I take your point WWB. Already suffer terribly with PMS, think i have something else, can't remember the name but it is a type of depression that basically is centered about your cycle. There was a thread about it on Feeling depressed section and I came across it by accident. I had each and every one of the symptoms and am plucking up courage to see gp about that.

I took noresthisterone (brand name Primulotan or something) a few weeks ago because I was due on on my wedding day. (Not good with ivory dress )

I took it for 5 days and just had to stop. It was absolutely awful. I felt angry all the time (get pms so am aware of those kind of feelings). I couldnt stop being angry. I was bloated. It was just horrid. I stopped taking it - it induced an earlier period, and then by the time the wedding day came - it was mostly over and done with, and I had a mooncup given to me to deal with the dregs.

stripeytiger · 05/12/2007 21:02

Think I will just go with the flow then (no pun intended). B/f against me interfering with nature anyway and we have fun in other ways
