My son has been peeing this much for 10 days now. Diabetes has been ruled out and the Doctors don't know what is wrong with him. He is well apart from this. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

How long trained?
Anything big/unusual going on in your house at the moment?

Bubu · 03/12/2007 19:34

Has a sore head and sore stomach. He pee'd 750mls on Saturday (I've been measuring it) and 290mls yesterday.

My dd1 did this for a few weeks prior to dd2 being born and was worse at nightime ,at one point every hour on the hour.

She was tested for uti's etc but in the end the GP said it was psychological.

Sure enough as soon as dd2 came along the frequent loo visits stopped.

Bubu · 03/12/2007 19:38

I can't think of anything going on that would have him upset, everything is normal at home - well, as normal as it gets!!

OP posts:
belgo · 03/12/2007 19:39

is he drinking the same amount as normal?

does he have a temperatuer that may be making him lose fluids through sweating?

290mls is not alot, and over 32 times, that's less then 10 mls each time - a dribble each time.

Ceratinly worth taking a urine sample to the doctors, and getting him checked for a urinary infection/kidney problem.

mintydixcharrington · 03/12/2007 19:39

did he just dip his pee or did he culture it

if the former get him to do the latter

wardrobemistressakasugarfree · 03/12/2007 19:43

I do apologise, the doorbell went and I left Ds3 near the keyboard!

rosieyorkshirelass · 03/12/2007 19:44

How much is he drinking? I came out negative on the diabetes test- but found after three weeks of tests I had a rare kind of diabetes- diabetes inspidius. He has probably got headaches with being dehydrated, with fluid just passing straight through. I lost 2 stone in 2 week, as drinking all the time.
Anyway might not be this- but worth mentioning!

Bubu · 03/12/2007 19:49

His pee has been tested by the GP and at the hospital. They thought it may be diabetes insipidus but as his pee is still yellow they have ruled this out.

He had 600mls to drink the day he peed 290mls and 850mls to drink the day he peed 750mls.

The doctors have not tested his kidneys only his blood for blood sugar levels.

mintydixcharrington · 03/12/2007 19:51

hmmm. well that's all good....
no other suggestions from me, then. At what point will they check out his kidneys?

belgo · 03/12/2007 19:55

i also don't know what else to suggest - was also about to mention diabetes incipidous.

it's good that you are keeping an intake and output charts.

Iiwy, I would persue this further through the doctors.

Bubu · 03/12/2007 19:58

The doctor is phoning me tomorrow re where we go from here, just thought I'd pop on here and see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks for your help. Hopefully something will get sorted soon!

my daughter was like this last year she was referred to hosp first had scan and all was ok, then was admitted to hosp overnight as she was loosing weight and diabetes insipidus was though as she also had headaches etc. we was told only way to rule out diabetes insipidus is to do a water deprivation test, where she doesnt eat or drink for amount of time and they measure and check her wee and also blood every hour and this will tell u if ur lo has it, i would ask to have one done.

in the end found out she had an over active bladder and with excercises etc shes alot better now, shes now 5 1/2 but was same age as ur son is now when it started

Bubu · 04/12/2007 22:18

Thanks for that. My son is also complaining of headaches and a sore tummy. I will mention this to them when I get the appointment. Glad to hear your wee one is doing well.
