Piles hell

I am in absolute agony - not pregnant & have suffered on and off since my children were born 20+ years ago. But this is something else - I have a huge swollen pile all along my perineum. I can’t sit or stand & only lying on ice seems to help. Ive been to urgent care, worried about abscess but there’s nothing they can do. I feel like I’m going to burst. Please tell me it’ll be ok!

Is it thrombosed? If so it will take a few days to go down, but it will go down. Bloody painful though. You have my sympathy

Aaaargggh · 05/09/2021 23:21

I didn’t think it was but have just had a shower and there was bright red blood and a bit of a clot. If anything there feels less pressure but it is a bit scary. Do they actually burst? Is it ok if they do?

Mine thrombosed and it was the most painful thing. Mine burst and gave out a bit of a clot, too-nothing more sinister.

Autumnally · 06/09/2021 01:49

I’ve not had one burst but have had a couple of thrombosed ones over the years. I imagine it having burst is ok, but you’re just going to need to work really hard to keep the area clean. Vaseline might be a good shout (I’ve used it for wound healing elsewhere)

Aaaargggh · 06/09/2021 08:36

Yikes I also have lots of what looks like pale brown pus draining out now (sorry if anyone’s eating breakfast)! I was sent away with a flea in my ear yesterday from urgent care as it was “just piles” but now I’m thinking maybe it was an abscess? Not sure if it needs looking at or whether to let nature do it’s stuff? So fed up it still hurts & I feel rubbish with it.

Ring Gp or go back. Not feeling well plus pain plus pus sounds like infection that’s not going get better.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/09/2021 08:44

would brown leaking be old blood?

Autumnally · 06/09/2021 09:25

Definitely contact your GP

Aaaargggh · 06/09/2021 09:48

Thanks I am waiting for a GP call back as I don’t feel right at all. I don’t have a temperature though & have everything crossed for old blood.

OP posts:
Autumnally · 06/09/2021 09:53

I would hope you don’t have a temperature. That would mean infection had progressed beyond the local site.

WavyTwinMommy · 06/09/2021 09:59

If you feel terrible, they technically cannot force you to leave. You can insist on staying and on them running more labs/exams. They can also help manage the pain. Hope that you feel better soon! Daffodil

SoupDragon · 06/09/2021 10:03

Germoloids has a local anaesthetic in it if you want temporary relief whilst waiting for the doctor.

Aaaargggh · 06/09/2021 12:55

Back from GP it’s an infection of some sort but they are seeing if it will fully drain by itself over the next 48 hours to avoid surgery. Have antibiotics to take. Im a bit cross I was fobbed of yesterday now!

OP posts:

Is it a bartholins cyst?

KatherineJaneway · 06/09/2021 16:50

Hope it heals soon OP

Aaaargggh · 07/09/2021 23:27

Sadly it was very much an abscess and because I was dismissed with “piles” it has grown and formed a fistula. I’m now waiting in pain for an operation I’m dreading. I’m lucky it started to drain rather than causing sepsis although that threat hasn’t totally gone yet. Gutted but if anyone reads this with similar symptoms don’t take no for an answer if you just know you feel wrong.

Call the dr and ask for a Scheriproct cream

YukoandHiro · 07/09/2021 23:35

Oh sorry OP just seen your update - Jesus! Hope you get decent treatment now xx

ABitOfAShitShow · 07/09/2021 23:37

Ah, OP. Hope you get some relief. Mine wasn’t as bad (visually or pain-wise) but I’m having the surgery in a couple of weeks. It’s actually been fine for weeks now but my understanding is that they simply don’t fully heal on their own. Sending positive thoughts.

Queenie6655 · 07/09/2021 23:37

Poor you

So sorry xxx

Supersimkin2 · 07/09/2021 23:45

Another NHS triumph. So sorry OP. Get well soon.

Aaaargggh · 07/09/2021 23:50

Thanks everyone & sorry rant over! I hope everything goes well for you a bit of and that it’s soon a distant memory for you. Do you have a fistula to deal with too? Maybe I’ve built up the horror of those in my mind 🤞

OP posts:
ABitOfAShitShow · 08/09/2021 00:12

I do, @Aaaargggh. It was never as bad as yours but kept filling and draining and would get quite uncomfortable. It’s been perfect for weeks but apparently it’ll still be there and should ideally be dealt with as early as possible. 🤷🏼‍♀️
