Wetting the bed

My daughter is 8 1/2 and still wets herself on a night so has to wear pull ups. We have tried everything - no water after 6pm, regular toilet visits, wake up at 10pm to go and wake her up early morning to go - and a mixture of these together. I have tried the alarm but she doesn’t like the feel of it. She does not wet herself in the day. I have been to see a doctor but her advice was just to persevere. Does anyone have any advice? I would be so grateful. Thank you in advance.

I would ask about amitriptyline. It’s prescribed for this to children. A very small amount though.

I have been told by the urology team my child sees that this is still within the normal age range. Desmopressin melts can be prescribed to help prevent bed wetting and have been effective for us, however, my gp would not prescribe them but did a referral to the urology team who have been brilliant. We are finally having dry nights aged 9 without the medication. I would suggest the Eric website is a good place to start if you haven't seen it. Alarms didn't work for us and we had a good drink routine in place. It thankfully seems to have resolved through a combination of medication and age.

Does your DD wet every night? If she does she’s not producing the hormone needed to be dry at night and needs Desmo melts to help kick start the hormone production.

At 8.5 I would have thought she could be referred now.

Blackcurrent can irritate the bladder so try not to give her that.

Thank you for replying. Will be getting back in touch with the gp.
