Gerd and weight

I have suffered with gerd for 10 years , I take 20mgs of omprozole, sometimes keeps it under control sometimes not. I sometimes up it to 40
I feel a lot of my gerd was caused by bulimia in my teens and early twenties as well as being overweight .
I have had 4 endoscopes in 6/7 years the last in Dec 2019 . These have show mild gastritis and I had a polyp removed in 2019 .
Every time I go to my doctor complaining of the acid they refer me .
For 2 weeks I have been getting more of a gerd cough , and some acid .

My doctor has said to up the omprozeole to 40mgs this has helped .

Can being massively overweight make this worse ? I have gained a couple of stones extra since last summer I am now the heaviest I have ever been .

A lot of it is on my stomach , I really don’t want to have another endoscopy bit of course I am worrying it’s sinister ! Would losing weight ease things ?

From what I've read, definitely!

@fubitch thank you I wondering if losing a stone or so might be worth it before I have to go for another scope !

I would definitely try that first. I have put a stone on and can definitely tell it's coming back again.

Just to say with the amount of endoscopies you've had I really wouldn't worry its anything sinister I'd feel reassured if anything that nothing has never been seen.
I also suffer with gerd and have to sleep propped up on pillows now the last few years but still get the night time acid occasionally it's horrible, weight loss is supposed to help but I'm quite slim and it's never made any difference to me unfortunately.
