The rash started under her nappy, but now has spread down her legs to her feet ...

DD2 (nearly 1) developed a rash under her nappy yesterday which I put down to nappy rash. It's just lots of little red dots, slightly raised, that disappear when pressed. Now the rash has spread right down her legs, but not up onto her torso.

She doesn't have a temperature, she's eating, and is currently splashing in the bath with her sister and lots of bicarb.

What do you reckon? I can't bear our out of hours service here. Should I be more worried?

Sounds like it may be a heat rash or an allergic reaction. Does it still go white when pressed with a glass?

babypowder · 02/12/2007 18:23

Yup, it still goes white when pressed. Weird to get an allergic reaction below the waist though?

Why?

Indith · 02/12/2007 18:30

Oh dear BP. Last time ds got a random rash the Dr just said that sometimes random virus caused them and just to keep an eye on it. You've not changed washing powder or anything?

santascRUMPELedsuit · 02/12/2007 18:33

Was she poorly a few dyas ago? Hand stuck in mouth and off her food? If so it might have been hand, foot and mouth disease.
The spots appeared on my LO's bum then spread to her legs and arms.

babypowder · 02/12/2007 18:36

Nope, nothing has changed.

NAB, when DD1 developed her allergies to lactose and eggs (albeit as a tiny baby), the doctor told us to watch her torso for reactions, so it had never occurred to me that it could happen on her legs. You're right though, I can't see any reason for thinking that!

I'll maybe watch it tonight and if it gets worse get her up to the docs in the morning.

Allergic to bubble bath/similar? Trousers washed in different detergent?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 02/12/2007 18:37

Sorry X posts. Not washing powder then...hmm.

babypowder · 02/12/2007 18:39

Ah, she has been excessively drooly over the past couple of days (which I put down to possible teething). No sign of the rash on her hands, though ....

Have you tried ringing NHS direct - may be able to give you advice over the phone.

santascRUMPELedsuit · 02/12/2007 18:42

My DD had no rash on her hands or feet - just her bottom, legs and arms! I had no idea and put it down to her teething too. Until the rash got worse (spread from bottom to legs and arms) 3 days later and took her to the Drs.

santascRUMPELedsuit · 02/12/2007 18:42

Check her mouth for ulcers.

babypowder · 02/12/2007 19:47

Have had very negative experiences with NHSDirect, which is why I'd rather avoid it if poss!

I've just given her some slippery macaroni cheese for tea, which she wolfed down, and she's now tucking into yoghurt. I can't see any ulcers in her mouth, but she is much happier eating slippery food than she has been with other things. She wouldn't eat cheese on toast this afternoon, which isn't like her.

Poor dd, BP - am not an expert on rashes, but the wolfing macaroni cheese sounds reassuring. Does sound as though her mouth/throat are sore though?

babypowder · 02/12/2007 22:30

Sorry, Eli - disappeared there! Yes, she has really enjoyed eating soft food tonight, so her wee mouth must be a bit sore. Suppose I'll have to take her up to GP tomorrow, just to be sure. Thankfully I'm on hols until Wednesday, so its not such a big deal keeping her off nursery. I just hope her big sister has already been exposed to it and is therefore immune. Given her drama-queen tendencies she'll behave as though she has the plague if she does get it
