Hypothyroid but antibody negative

Found out I’m hypothyroid on bloods but not making autoantibodies. Presume that there is some other cause but what could it be? Other than BMI 30 I’m well. Did the test as had a few heart flutters and thought might be hyperthyroid.

I'm antibody negative as well. My hypothyroidism is because of damage to my pituitary gland caused by the Epstein Barr Virus (glandular fever).

Thanks @NaToth, how did they investigate?

They didn't! After I was diagnosed with CFS for the second time, I started doing my own research. It's a very long story, but that's the nub of it.

Think this is my situation also , no antibodies

LaurieFairyCake · 07/02/2022 23:32

Hashimoto's thyroiditis?

It's an auto immune condition

beingsunny · 07/02/2022 23:44

Hashimotos would show a high level of antibodies, the aim is to reduce them, usually by finding triggers such as gluten, sugar, alcohol etc.

@Onandoff

Thanks *@NaToth*, how did they investigate?
Hypothyroidism due to pituitary damage will show as low T4 and low TSH.

Hypothyroidism due to thyroid damage - e.g. Hashimotos autoimmune thyroiditis will show as low T4 and high TSH.

There are other causes of thyroiditis - e.g. viral. With these you'd get low T4 but no antibodies.
