I've woken up with this! Feels a bit sore and gritty. Do I need to see a GP or pharmacist?

Never ever underestimate eye problems! If it’s gritty it could be conjunctivitis which a pharmacist can give you eye drops for. But if it hurts then you will be sent to see a gp.

Get it sorted ASAP

Thankyou. It isn't painful it just feels a bit sore and irritated I guess.

looks nasty, I would definitely go and get it looked at!

bunnytheegghunter · 24/08/2021 08:42

You need to go to the optician not a GP!

whatsupwithmyeye · 24/08/2021 08:45

I will get it looked at. Thanks everyone. I've a docs appointment with a nurse shortly so I'll ask while I'm there.

Optician! Not GP. An optician can prescribe eye drops or refer you to the eye clinic if necessary.

whatsupwithmyeye · 24/08/2021 09:17

I've just seen a pharmacist who said because I've had no head trauma and it isn't painful then it should clear itself up in the next few days and to use eye drops for the soreness.

I had that a few years ago, but my whole white of my eye was blood, went to drs and was just a blood vessel that popped, nothing to worry about and it cleared up after about 2 weeks.

Bluesheep8 · 25/08/2021 12:07

You should still see an optician op.
A GP missed an ulcer on DP's eye once which could've been really nasty.

An eye ulcer? That sounds painful!

It's cleared up a little already.

Sorry, didn't mean to alarm you op - just saying that it's best to see an optician with eye problems, I've been told that by both a pharmacist and a GP.
Glad yours is clearing up though

DH had a very blood shot eye with Covid 4 weeks ago, apparently it's a symptom.

I don't have Covid! Ive just had to do a LFT for an appointment I have later on today and it's negative.

I didn't know that was a symptoms though.

I get this loads, I have a weak blood vessel on my eye, I also wear contact lenses and sometimes poke my eye by mistake, it's basically a bruise in your eye, unless it's really sore which could indicate an infection or an ulcer. If the eye fills with blood you might need your blood pressure checking, otherwise if it goes away in a few days should be ok to assume it's a bruise

Rina66 · 26/08/2021 10:56

We didn't know it was a symptom either, it was pointed out when DH went for his drive through PCR - great spot considering the helpers don't get too close to the car. I went home and googled it....

It may well be episcleritis, I had this a few months ago and my optician said it was that.

It's a localised area and due to inflammation. It went with taking ibuprofen for a couple of days. It was sore whenever I moved my eye around.
