What happens when you had it? And if you had a severe rash just wanted to know how long it lasted.

I took a tablet on tuesday and had a severe rection, even last night after 48 hours the rash was still blazing and had gone to my face

Its a bit better today after copious amounts of piriton but just wondered when I can expect to look and feel normal again?

i have a severe reaction to all codeine based drugs and get rashy from quite a few others

it usually takes a good 48 - 72 hours to get back to normal for me

piriton should help

I had full body rash after taking Penecillin, but as it was over 20 years ago i can't remember how long it lasted.

I'm allergic to penicillin and come out in an incredibly itchy rash all over if I take it. It would probably last a few days, maybe just under a week. But, tbh, I don't take penicillin based antibiotics any more because of this, so can only go on my past experience which was several years ago. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I had a big reaction to penecillin.

I had a throat sweet - a Tyrozet - which have small amounts of penecillin, apparantly, very quickly came out in huge big round swollen lumps (too big to be called spots), very high temperature, delirious and hallucinating. I was about 14 and at home on my own, so didn't do anything, just went to bed and waited for it all to subside. The lumps took about a day to go, I think.

Sharp intake of breath, Blu!
Let that be a lesson to all of us, not to leave a 14 year old alone overnight.

You didn't think of phoning any one for help?

I have a severe neurological reaction to some antibiotics (thankfully rare ones)

they cause abnormalities in my brain blood flow and nasty visual disturbances.

I managed to work it out by myself (used to work in drug safety monitoring and it was my job)

I was referred to a consultant, who had a student medic with him. I gave my description and my diagnosis, the consultant said 'Quite right, I fully agree with you' turned to his student and said, 'Don't expect a summary that good every time'

I am allergic to sulphanamide. Quite a lot of people are. I may, as a result, now be prone to allergic reactions to penicillin.

Elasticwoman - well quite! I was looking after my 12 year-old brother and 7 year-old sister, too. It was 'the old days'. I knew Mum would be home about 11pm...and I did't really know who to call for help.

I carry a 'penecillin allergy' card now, as I suspect that a second attack could do for me.

Elasticwoman · 01/12/2007 20:16

Oh, at least you weren't left o/n, Blu. I have taught kids of 14 who have been left home alone for a whole weekend while Mum goes away with bf, and then wonders why teenage son/daughter has no respect for them and goes out of control.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/12/2007 22:14

I'm allergic to penicillin - full body rash (horrendous) and hallucinations. I think I'm allergic or sensitive to Piriton too - I took it once and felt like I was having a stroke.

Lets just hope I don't get given Penicillin and then Piriton to counteract - I can't imagine the results

i had a reaction to taking an imigran tablet, it made the inside of my throat swell, quite scary. rushed back to gp and she gave me an adrenalin injection. i was totally wiped out for 24 hours but ok after that
