I had onset of diarrhoea last night, after dinner. I assumed it was the food not agreeing with me. Went to sleep hoping it was all over. Woke @ 4am with bad stomach pains, lots more diarrhoea. Took imodium and cocodamol, tried to go back to sleep. Woke this morning @ 11am, now there is blood in the diarrhoea. Its not anal fissure or piles, its blood/mucus coming out. Im waiting for 111 to call me back. Im scared

Test results are a raised calprotectin level of 175, but nothing showing in the bactetia test. I can see the GP is going to ring me tomorrow, and I think its either a repeat test or referral to hospital.

How are you today? Hopefully feeling better, X.

My blood work was all fine, no anemia or anything. Pain was bad yesterday, went to the toilet 5 times. Better today, only been once. So far.

May sound a bit of an odd question but relevant. What colour were the clotted bits of blood. Deep dark cherry colour should not be ignored. I was told fresh bright red is usually from a fissure or piles.

YeOldeTrout · 26/08/2021 07:20

I hope it turns out to be something the doctors can easily fix, OP.

Dreamer1989 · 26/08/2021 14:56

It was fresh red blood - the diarrhoea was covered in it. Its def not a fissure, ive had surgery for mine and I know how they feel. No question is odd at this point…. ;p

This is not correct. Bright red blood can also be a warning sign. Any blood in the stool whatever colour needs to be investigated.

As I am someone with bowel cancer I would ask for an urgent colonoscopy on the two week cancer pathway. Do not put this off.

FlorencenotRatchet · 26/08/2021 17:00

Op I would also be pushing for a colonoscopy. Your calprotectin levels are high and should be repeated as they can be an indicator of inflammatory bowel disease.
I had many similar symptoms to yours. Unfortunately I was not so quick to the GP and my levels came back at 1900. Colonoscopy confirmed ulcerative colitis.

Dreamer1989 · 26/08/2021 18:48

I am really hoping that I get a colonoscopy appt before seeing any gastro dr - dont really see what we can talk about without a scope! Im still in pain, less than I was but its aching and nagging at me.
