Tooth abscess.

Hello. I’m in so much pain with a tooth abscess. It started about 5 days ago and I’m now in agony. I phoned every dentist in my area plus 111 to try to find some help/appointments. Initially, the earliest anyone could see me was in 3 weeks time. According to 111, my area doesn’t have any out of hours dentists either. After lots of tears (& a bit of luck) I managed to get an emergency appointment with my NHS dentist the other day. My tooth was x-rayed and I was given pain killers and antibiotics.
I’m now due to have root canal treatment in about 3 weeks.

However, the pain is worse than ever today. My face feels swollen, I feel sick & I’m past the magic 48 hours of antibiotics (I’m on a 5 day course). I’ve rung the dentist but I don’t think I’ll get seen as they have staff issues. Do I have any options left? I’ve been given the highest dose of ibuprofen but that’s not touching the pain. Has anyone ever been to A&E with an abscess or is that just wasting the Drs time?

Thank you. I’m off to swish some salt water in my mouth. 😩 xx

When I have been dentist before with an abscess they have always pushed down on the tooth with there thumb and popped it.
I think it depends on if there is a escape route out so if the tooth is broken. Think the pain is mostly pressure pushing the tooth which makes it hurt.
Some can't be popped one time I had one what made me look like I had a golf ball in my month it was that bad.

Phone the dentist you have already seen and ask their advice.

I see you have already called them but they can call you back and offer advice even without seeing you.

Can you see a private dentist? I know it will cost a lot more but will be worth it for the pain. I did this and got seen much quicker. It did cost me a small fortune though I must say x
