Just been diagnosed with stage one hidradenitis supperativa and I'm a bit in shock and feeling really sad.

Have seen lots of horror stories online – is there anyone here who has it and is managing it well?

Any advice?

I've got a new lump that's just come up overnight and it hurts like hell...

Hi, I didn't want to read and run so just want to say hope you find a solution for this, looks like a distressing condition.

Thanks @SpeedRunParent –it seems there's no 'cure' and everyone has different triggers, so it's particularly frustrating....

Appreciate the support, though!

Hi I just got diagnosed as well though I use that term loosely as every other doctor has a different opinion saying it is or it isn’t and it keeps going I totally understand your feelings as it left me feeling really depressed as well Flowers. Mine is on and off and all doctors have been completely in useless. My tip is I use sanex deodorant as it calms the skin. What are you currently doing ?

Hi. I’ve got this. I got my first lump when I entered puberty and I get them on and off, in both groin and armpits. It’s extremely painful, and difficult to get diagnosed.

I think I’m stage 2.

Have you tried turmeric? This can completely control it for some people.

I was diagnosed with HS when I was in my 40s (62 now, haven't had a problem for 10 years).

I was prescribed almost every antibiotic available, every cream, Hibiscrub, Dettol baths (!). Eventually, the ONLY thing that worked was TRIMOVATE cream.

Good luck

I'm visualising spreading Turmeric on the skin 😂

Im diagnosed by a dermatologist. My issues started at about 13 im 43 now. The dermatologist offered me serious antibiotics (TB drugs I think) but they told me it would turn my tears orange and I never took them. I've been on antibiotics for years daily, varying types and I'm now waiting to see the dermatologist for the TB drugs. I've been hospitalised with one a few years ago and was maybe 3 hrs away from going to hospital last week with one. To quantity this, my health generally is really very bad and i believe its all linked to that. I think it's exacerbated due to the stress my body is under.

My doctor insists losing weight and stopping smoking would help. I stopped last April but the weight is largely outside my control (heading towards hyperthyroidism and taking the most tablets I've ever taken in my life 😭)
Like I say my health is very very complex though so I'm not sure I'm a true reflection.

My gran had it so I do believe there's some hereditary tendencies.

I was also hospitalised at 16 with a perennial absess. I'm sorry I wish i could tell you good things. I strongly believe stress is a massive factor but I'm curious about the Turmeric

I know this is an old thread but bumping as I've just been diagnosed and wondered how the OP was doing now a year or so on?

I am not very typical as nearly 50. I wonder if hormone changes and stress have caused this to start now? I am stage 1 and wondered if it was inevitable that you move through the stages as is life long condition. I thought I was just suffering from some kind of lymph issue or painful ingrown hairs... so very surprised to come out of GP with this. I suppose I'm wondering if there is hope and there are ways to manage? I'm being sent for other blood tests to see if there is underlying health issue that could've caused this to start up -diabetes & thyroid. I'm otherwise feeling totally healthy though and in a normal weight range.
