DS (11) complaining that eyes hurt - does this sound cause for concern?

He says that they have been hurting since Saturday. On Sunday he bumped his left eye but this might be a red herring as both eyes hurt.

He is OK otherwise but rather tired and grumpy. There seems to be no gunk in his eyes.

Could it be eye strain - has an interactive whiteboard in the classroom on all day. Plus is doing lots of tests for secondary entry. And likes Playstation.

Of course it could be a virus. I think some viruses have very non descript symptoms which often affect the eyes.

He is not that keen on going to docs but I will book appointment if this doesn't clear up. Plus an opticians appt.

I suppose I am posting in case I am missing something vital that anyone else picks up.

Thanks all

Painful eyes can also be caused from pressure in the brain. Has he bumped his head lately - something that in retrospect might have caused a concussion? If you shine a light in his eyes do they contract and then expand quickly again when it is taken away? I have no medical quals/exp ... I hope someone else comes on, but I would definitely get it checked out. Have you looked up the symptom on pubmed or medline?

I'd take him to the opticians for an eye test as it could very well be a case of him needing glasses. When did he last have his eyes tested?
If that proves normal, then check with the GP.
