Has anyone had a mole removed?

I’ve got 2 on my face which really bother me, they’re raised and ugly and one sprouts the most attractive hairs. Happy to pay but no idea what to look for or how much it’s likely to be.

Watching with interest as I have 2 on my face as well. Hated them all my life and they are getting bigger!

Numnumcookie · 05/08/2021 20:56

One on my forehead, shaved and cauterised about £70

GingerBreadTeddy · 05/08/2021 20:56

Yes! I had several removed. Only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.

Definitely pay privately if that’s an option. I had several removed privately by a specialist dermatologist and he did such a neat tidy job.

Unfortunately I also had one removed by my GP and he made a right mess & left a massive scar Sad

GingerBreadTeddy · 05/08/2021 20:57

Oh and I paid about £500 but that was to have probably 10 removed

Kenworthington · 05/08/2021 20:58

Are they raised moles? I had a large raised lumpy one in armpit and had it removed by gp in surgery and it was great. Weird and unpleasant smelll as they cauterized it though 🤢

Soontobe60 · 05/08/2021 20:58

I’ve had one removed from my side as it was suspicious looking. They had to do quite a wide, deep incision and although the mole was about 5mm wide, my scar is about 5cm long!
A friend had one removed from her neck but it was only cosmetic so didn’t leave a scar at all.

Numnumcookie · 05/08/2021 21:00

Price depends on whether they shave it and cauterise or "dig" out the base of it, I think. I also had one on top of my head removed but that was done on the NHS as it grew in size (was benign). That one they dug out and it bleed profusely.

DD having one on her chin removed at a private clinic by shaving, cost £160 for consultation then £350 for the procedure

augustusglupe · 05/08/2021 22:53

I had one removed this week. It was a bit dark and the consultant didn't like the look of it. He's done a very neat job, although the scar looks about 4cm, the mole was only 4mm.
It was £710 at the Spire. That included consultant fee, hospital fee and histology.

Kitkat151 · 05/08/2021 22:55

I had 3 removed on my back...I asked for a referral to dermatology from my GP.... done in outpatients clinic....painless and neat stitching

Meme69 · 05/08/2021 23:04

I had about 6 removed from my face, one had hair growing from it. I actually went to see the nurse (yes nurse) about removing one on my back and mentioned I hated the ones on my face too. She offered to remove them as long as I was clear that there might be a scar left. There was, but they are tiny and now hardly show unless I get a suntan and they stay white.

That bloody hair is still there though!!!

If your moles are changing its worth speaking to a GP or private dermatologist.

I have an appointment at the hospital on Wednesday for changes in my moles and it was red flagged cause they'd changed. I'm so worried now and have pretty much convinced myself I have melanoma.

AnnaSW1 · 05/08/2021 23:14

@Nightmarenextdoor Where are you based?

rainbowlou · 05/08/2021 23:16

I had one removed by my gp from my leg when pregnant.it had become itchy and swollen.
It was all ok amd didn’t cost me anything.

StillMedusa · 05/08/2021 23:17

I had a dodgy one removed on the NHS..left a small scar as it's on my face but I'm glad it's gone.
I had one on my head removed ....gp did it for me, because it kept being caught by my hairbrush and hairdressers used to catch it and make it bleed.
And one I paid to have removed from my face because I hated it.. £300 .

AlCalavicci · 05/08/2021 23:22

I have one of my face to which sprouts about 6 hairs have considered getting it removed several times but I'm worried about the scarring after.

Nightmarenextdoor · 06/08/2021 05:37

They haven’t changed as such, just got more prominent over the years - I did see a GP a few years ago who told me what to look out for.

It’s just a cosmetic thing really, I don’t like how they look. I’m based in Beds/Bucks so any recommendations around that area would be handy.

As it's on your face, I would pay to get it done by a dermatologist. I wouldn't hesitate to do it, if it's bothering you. Coming from hotter climates, I've had some removed, with good results.

cultkid · 06/08/2021 05:56

£650

Harley st
Shaved
Histology

1 mole on back

Seventimesaday · 06/08/2021 06:36

Yes. I had one removed at the doctors surgery. On my stomach so I wasn’t worried about a scar though.
Local anaesthetic, few minutes later it was off. Three stitches which I had to go back to have removed. Red scar for a while, but now, a few years later, I really have to search to find the scar, and I only find it because I know where to look.

onthinice · 06/08/2021 06:42

I've had one removed from my back, but it was frozen off. Maybe this isn't a thing anymore, it was about 15 years ago. I had to go for two appointments until it was completely removed. No pain, no scar, no stitching. NHS so free, though I moved area and in the place I lived before hand they said I couldn't have it done, so not universally done it seems.

OldTinHat · 06/08/2021 06:54

A dodgy one removed from my shoulder. Because of where it was, a cosmetic surgeon removed it to reduce scarring. I now have the biggest effing scar that people always comment on during the summer!

cheeseisthebest · 06/08/2021 06:57

I had one removed from my chin that I hated by my GP surgery. I got it looked at cos I thought it had changed, he said it was fine but offered to remove it anyway. No charge. Had to wait a couple of months.

PinotPony · 20/08/2021 10:54

I had a few raised moles (including one with Nanny McPhee hair) removed from my face. Paid £400 privately and they were shaved and cauterised as not suspicious. Healed within a fortnight and scars are so faint I have to look very hard to find them.

Anything suspicious should be excised e.g. dug out. I had a mole on my arm excised last week and consultant just called me to say it's malignant melanoma. I have to go back for wider excision but it's only 0.4mm deep so she is not concerned.
