Feel Anaemic, normal bloods?

WillowySnicket · 03/08/2021 19:56

I'd be so grateful if someone could help. I've had near-continuous intramenstrual bleeding (ranging from spotting to a pads' worth, with two 'normal' periods in between) since March. Feeling more exhausted than I can describe, icy hands and feet, tinnitus, vertigo. Anaemia, you might think? Bloods came back all clear! I am feeling at a loss. "Normal snd satisfactory" for thyroid, b12, vit d, bone, liver, kidney, ferritin, blood count. I am breastfeeding if that makes any difference. Great diet/healthy lifestyle. I don't smoke or drink. GP not interested and receptionist refused an appointment because the bloods were all normal! If anyone has any ideas...I'm desperate!

Do you have the actual results and the reference ranges?

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/08/2021 19:59

All your symptoms could be down to exhaustion - sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture for a reason. Can you get some help to get a few good nights' sleep?

Hardchoices · 03/08/2021 20:01

You need the actual results to know what to try first. For example the reference ranges for ferritin and b12 that gp’s use are shocking bad.

Make sure you are drinking plenty water as dehydration can make you feel terrible. Have you had your bleeding checked?

WillowySnicket · 03/08/2021 20:55

I drink a lot of water but not getting much sleep (read: barely sleeping at all thanks to night demon babies). Forgot to add, I'm not on contraceptives, 100% not pregnant, 100% not an STI.

I've requested the actual results so maybe can go from there. Do normal ranges of those tests usually mean it is nothing serious? Ie would gynae cancers Etc show up on those blood tests?

Thank yoh so much for replying...I'm feeling so helpless (not knowing why I've been bleeding for so long/feeling so unbelievably crap) and hopeless (don't have the time or energy to fight the system). I just want a kindly mama hen nurse to "there there, dear" me into a bed to sleep for a thousand years and a expert tell me exactly what is wrong and what I can do!

You need the actual results. Ferritin isn't a particularly reliable test for iron deficiency on its own, it's released in to the blood stream as part of the inflammatory response so unless it's really quite high, it needs to be reviewed in conjuction with CRP.

How old is the baby?

Hardchoices · 04/08/2021 08:46

As you have a baby and are breastfeeding I would guess the bleeding is more than likelY hormonal. Def chase the bleeding with your go and make sure smear is up to date. Don’t worry about cancers - blood results will show if something is off but I wouldn’t each to cancer. As I’ve said you’ve had a baby, it’s a huge strain on the body and breastfeeding is too. Have a look at your diet too - make sure plenty healthy fats and protein. Consider looking at some decent supplements ie a breastfeeding multi vitamin, vitamin d, and some omega 3.

Thanks for the reassurances and info. I figured it was hormonal/totally 'fine' and so I'll investigate actual levels and go from there.
