Shingles in Ears

How do I get rid of this awful pain?? Codeine isn’t touching it, my right ear drum has already burst and I’m told this morning that my left ear drum is likely to go the same way. I’m so scared I’m going to be left deaf and I’m in so much pain Sad any tips to get through this??

Oh poor you that's awful. Are you on the antivirals?

I've had problems with my ear drum bursting repeatedly and found a hot water bottle or heat pack in a tea towel helps

There is at least normally some pain relief once the ear drum is burst :(

Are you sure it's shingles? Shingles usually follows a single nerve, so one side of the body or the other. It wouldn't normally be in both ears.

God that's awful, who have you seen for it?

Deereamer · 01/08/2021 13:10

@Seeline I’ve been told by 3 different docs (including an ENT specialist) that it’s definitely shingles. I’ve seen my own GP, a doc at A and E when my right ear drum burst and an out of hours doc yesterday when my my left ear started to go the same way. He said it was rare in one ear and even rarer in both Sad

I’m on antivirals, steroid tablets, codeine and ear drops but the pain and pressure in my head is just awful .

@HappyThursdays I’ll give a hot water bottle a go - thanks for the reply x

You poor thing. It will probably feel better once it pops :(. I hope you have your feet up in bed and have people waiting on you. You must feel very run down too. Shingles takes it out of you let alone your ear drums going too.

Btw if the doctor/ENT didn't tell you, make sure you put cotton wool in your ears before you shower so they don't get wet. It really hampers the recovery if they get wet and can't heal nicely

You poor thing. Keep up with paracetamol and ibuprofen too- check if you can take that with codeine, pretty sure you can .
