Ear thermometer

Hi I'm getting different readings from each ear - is this normal?

I'm a nursery nurse and we use ear thermometers at work, we usually get a different reading in each ear. We go off the highest reading.

Thank you, I'm normally 35.7 but tonight feeling a bit unwell but no major symptoms but a bit of a sore throat and I'm varying over the afternoon from 36.8 to 37.7
