Tinnitus and sugar

I've had tinnitus on and off for the last year or so - seems to come and go (stress is a trigger).

I've been on the Fast800 diet for a few weeks which has meant cutting out sugar, most carbs etc.

At the weekend I ate a cake as a one-off and the tinnitus started - wasn't sure if it was wheat or sugar triggering it. However, today I ate some chocolate (family visited and brought it with them) and my tinnitus is raging.

So, sugar seems to be a massive trigger and after googling it turns out this is a known thing. Anyone else experienced this reaction to sugar?
